a pic from chicago. 300+ cars are stuck on the highway. Some people ran out of gas and others just say screw it and left their cars there.

Good old lake effect snow. We're too far south where I'm from to get blanketed by the Great Lakes but over the past few days we've been hit with a ton freezing rain.. hurts like a bitch when you're trying to scrape half an inch of ice from your car windows.

poppie 02-02-2011 03:54 PM

thats the same thing what happend to us in the big blizzard of 1978
people were found frozen to death inside their cars.

Icying and freezing ice pellets still going on for us tonight,
people having problems walking around! slipping and sliding.
the Governor of Ma. warned everyone on tv today
living in our area to be on
the alert for hazardous driving conditions tomorrow morning.

alli-oop 02-02-2011 05:10 PM

holy cows@ the chicago pic. But I bet it's a lot of fun for those into snowshoeing. if you're close enough to work, snowshoe to work. That would be fun.

s_k 02-02-2011 05:15 PM

If that picture was at least 1440 pixels wide, I'd use it as my desktop background.
It's beautiful to look at. Sad for the people in those cars, obviously :)

Hank The Drifter 02-02-2011 05:19 PM

Its snowing every where in the US except the the state to the northeast of me, South Carolina, and to the south of me, Florida. Also, Hawaii I guess. lol.

Its gloomy here but in the 60s today. Supposed to rain a lot but its warm outside so no snow or anything to worry about.

poppie 02-02-2011 05:43 PM

I gotta feeling this might be a Prelude to 2012!? the end!.
some say disasters will come all at once, or in a long term
effect. looks like it will be the long term effect, floods all
around the world!,earthquake's,!tsunamis. i know there was a movie
but the prophets say it will accure for real.

my sister living outside of Houston texas said they will be getting 2 to 3 inches of the white stuff.

I was waiting for someone to bring up that 2012 garbage.

s_k 02-02-2011 06:43 PM

This has been happening over and over again throughout the centuries.
Don't worry :)

(there was 2000 garbage too. And 2010 garbage too...)

That's why I'm so skeptical about it.

s_k 02-02-2011 06:46 PM

I know.
You can be sure you're right if you name another date every time.
But allright. 21st of december 2012.
21-12-2012. It's always an exceptional number, didn't you notice?

Bloozcrooz 02-03-2011 01:42 AM

Its finally starting to actually feel like winter again. I may have to put on a jacket when I go outside to smoke now. Im glad we dont get the boat loads of snow like other parts of the country, but it would be nice to get snowed in just once. And then quickly have it go away of course

poppie 02-03-2011 02:45 PM

and i knew that was coming too because most of the people i know
and was talking to about this
said the same thing its a lot of BS.

LG_Andrew 02-03-2011 04:11 PM

I was snowed in for 4 days last year in DC. You start to get a little stir crazy...it's not as much fun as it sounds. Though there was an epic snowball fight with thousands of people in Dupont which was awesome.

s_k 02-04-2011 07:04 AM

Windy here. Nice.

poppie 02-04-2011 07:19 PM

Well next week will be the anniversary of the 1978 blizzard 33 years ago!.
and there is a nor-easter for next week too. from what they predict its gonna
be a monster! we got nailed with almost 30 inches that year! some areas got
more then that.

I'm not sure what to think. This week we're supposed to get snow, and it's not even supposed to get up to 30. Then again we're in a mass of cold air. So it's very possible. I'M SO EXCITED.

alli-oop 02-06-2011 01:48 PM

we've had maybe 2 days of snow here that was gone the next day. Forecasters kept predicting a cold snowy winter so I went out and got my first pair of winter boots since being a kid in the prairies in 88'. :( I got to try them in the cold, worked great, but i haven't gotten any snow or ice time.

poppie 02-06-2011 03:03 PM

it has been bascily those same temps here all day. rather balmy
today lots of melting going on.

I hope this works, I'm nervous after my last failed attempt.

Burning Down 02-07-2011 12:32 PM

Your picture showed up just fine. May I ask where that is? Because it's beautiful!

S_K, are those clouds from an airplane or are they just really perfectly shaped cirrus clouds (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cirrus_cloud)? Either way, it's really cool.

alli-oop 02-07-2011 01:52 PM

vancouver. the tail end of mountain might be Cypress mn, bowen island. Vancouver island way off in the distance.
That's sunset beach downtown though.

Burning Down 02-07-2011 02:07 PM

That's so pretty. I want to go there someday!

alli-oop 02-07-2011 03:13 PM

well you don't live that far away. geesh. get a move on.

We don't have that many airplanes here. So I think these are probably one or two airplane stripes and a beautiful set of cirrus clouds :)

Well, it costs money that I don't have LOL!! At least it's in the same country, though it seems like it's not. I've never been anywhere west of here (except for California, and I had a 1 night layover in Cincinnati on the way there because the second flight was delayed) or east of Montreal :(

s_k 02-07-2011 04:17 PM

Don't worry, you have done better than I have.
Never more north than Groningen in the Netherlands, never more south than Clerveaux in Luxembourg, never more east than Bottrop in Germany, never more west than Renesse in the Netherlands.
From the centre of the Netherlands (I live in the south) this is all under 200 miles...

Zer0 02-07-2011 04:22 PM

Our weather here over the past few days has been very bipolar. It'll be lashing rain with strong winds one day, then calm, quite mild and a bit sunny another day. Make up your ****ing mind

More funky clouds this evening :)

CanwllCorfe 02-08-2011 11:06 AM

‎"Note to YOU...the second half of February will showcase a change in upper level winds?!?! So, what's it all mean? We'll we'll have more days with near and even above normal temperatures for the last two weeks of the month. Then...well, then it's March!!!"

Oh thank my messiah.

poppie 02-08-2011 05:33 PM

poppie 02-13-2011 05:37 PM

ThePhanastasio 02-14-2011 04:40 AM

HOLY ****. It's 54 degrees outside right now, and supposed to get even warmer as the day progresses. I'm loving this. Going to have to call my friends and see if they're down for a Valentine's Day camping trip!
