Hey you guys remember the blizzard of 1978! that was the blizzard,
the mother of all blizzars!. we got nail with almost 40 inches that year!
my car was compleatly under snow and ice took me 3 days to dig out!.
i had a 7 foot snow drift on my side doorway took me 6 hours to clear that out!.the coastline of Ma. and R.I. got nailed with 3 feet of slush!
the storm lasted for 4 days!! had high winds well over 100 MPH the storm
had the lowest barometric pressure on recoord. I95 was literally a parking lot
we had a 25 foot tidel surge waves were as high as 30 feet i don't think there will be no blizzard that will beat this one they have been some that came pretty damn close though, people were found frozen solid stranded in there cars the temps were well below the line we were without power for weeks!.

s_k 12-27-2010 07:10 PM

I must say I've never seen snow as much as I have this year.
Last year was pretty good, but this year. It's incredible.

Astronomer 12-29-2010 02:15 AM

I've got some friends stuck in New York due to the snow. Kinda funny seeing as I took this picture not far from my house just the other day...

You live near the sea?

Weather report from Sweden this afternoon. Talk about contrast to the beach view above.

Snow actually makes a good car shelter in itself. Now, would I get it on its feet for a ride?

Of course I would, it was built for these conditions goddamnit!

For the first time in the month of December, it's not snowing. There is still a little bit of snow on the ground, but it's almost completely melted now; it's 45 degrees today, and I have actually been able to comfortably walk around with a thin hoodie over a t-shirt for the first time this month.

Very nice.

poppie 12-30-2010 03:47 PM

here is a shot from my 3rd floor livingroom window from last weekends blizzard we got nailed with 16 inches outta that one we were in the eye of the storm when i took that shot.

Most people in Australia live on the coast, but I'm currently lucky enough to be living about a 5 minute walk from this bay which is pretty exciting because it's summertime :)

A city in Ontario had way more snow than that during one storm and nobody declared a real state of emergency. But everything was shut down for the most part, for a couple of days.

We're supposed to get about 6 or 7 inches of snow overnight. I think it's snowing right now actually.

poppie 01-11-2011 05:38 PM

and we are still trying to get rid of the other 2 storms we had
last week.
plus another one right after this one is expected for next week
this storm hasn't started yet but its at our front door.

s_k 01-15-2011 08:09 AM

The skies are very... surreal today :)

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...r/IMG_2913.jpg

Wow.
It's like a painting.

CanwllCorfe 01-15-2011 11:04 AM

Beautiful stuff! I remember one morning it looked similar to that. It was sunrise, and it was VERY dark, and for some reason the light coming through the clouds was white instead of orange. Very bizarre, but amazing.

It's been relatively cold lately. I can't wait for Spring.

s_k 01-15-2011 11:07 AM

This was sunset, actually :).
It's 12 degrees celcius here.
Utterly boring temperature. I prefer it to freeze and snow.

Haha, that's such a strange thing to read.
Being on a forum like this makes you forget some people are so far away.
I mean, I know where you live, but I can't really imagine it being summer there...

poppie 01-15-2011 07:59 PM

The same for us temps in the low teens this morning tomorrow lows will be in the single numbers! with 20 inches of snow on the ground in most areas will make it feel lots colder. plus more snow on the way for us tonight no more then a couple of inches the most but thats like rubbing salt in the wounds.
and another nor-easter expected for next week if i had a choice to move i would move to southern Texas! :)
