O-o...i think i fucked something up with my computer. i bought a dvd drive today and just put it where my ordinary cd drive was ( i also have a cd whatchyamightcallit...burner? ), hooked all the wires where they were on the cd drive and now it's gone all bezerko on my ass...i can't see either of them ( the cd burner or the dvd burner ), all it shows when i open windows explorer is some removable disc crap, when i click on it nothing happens and when i put in a dvd in the dvd drive my computer freezes....:(
was i supposed to do something else? help? please?:( |
what is the best virus protection program?
|
Adidasss, you need to check the master/slave settings on the back of the drive. You can have two drives per cable, one should be the master, and one should be the slave. Once you have done this, check the BIOS to ensure both are detected. If you still have a problem post back.
Decoy, best anti-virus package, in my opinion, is AVG. It is free (http://free.grisoft.com) and unobtrusive. I would never recommend any of the larger AV packages (Norton et al) since they're all bloated, PC wrecking, heaps of junk. Dave |
yeah, i thought about that, but decided it was easier to just unplug the cd burner, i'm not gonna use it now anyways....maybe i'll do the master slave thing later....and that came out wrong...i'm assuming the regular cd was set on slave and the dvd burner was on master and i didn't change it....thanks for the advice..:)
btw, i tried accessing the bios but it asked me for a password and i don't have it...:-/ so yeah, it's working now... |

sorry for bumping, But MOSES HAS A QUESTION. Oh and I'm getting AVG right now. But why with some movies I get off of limewire (hey it's good for that) do they say that they are one minute long and when that minute is over I can still hear audio playing? And why can I skip around and go to different scenes?

I have a question thats not related to computers...
Are males with long hair dying out or something? |
Yeah, they've figured out being a metal head isn't cool. I just have long hair because I'm too lazy and cheap to get a hair cut. And I'm growing it out to donate it to that Locks of Love thing. ^_^
|
I want a guy with good hair :(
And metal head hair is kinda gross to touch, it's so dirty it is sticky... EDIT: Yummm http://www.myguitarsolo.com/Players/JimmyPage.jpg |
I want his guitar. Old Silvertones have odd sounds and their cases are so cool. They have a built in 10 watt (I think) tube amp with speaker. But sadly the cases are always busted and the guitar's have wierd tuning key arangements so they can get out of tune really quick.
http://cgi.ebay.com/C-1959-60-SILVER...QQcmdZViewItem See the link for one. *drools* |
I want him.

I have another question. What is a good free firewall (not trial based but free, my parents want to get a new one but I can't pirate one because they think that's bad)?
|
Hey moses is there any sort of plugin that you can get to hook winamp up to MSN?
For that "what are you listening to" feature MSN has... |
Yeah there is actually. It's built in too. In the <type in your personal message box> click the drop down arrow and click the what are you listening to deal. If it needs a plug in I don't know why, I've got winamp and I didn't need one. If not www.google.com is a great help :p:

I need help! I have done something to my computer speakers, I have no idea how but I made it have a big echo. I want it to go away, please help?
|
What kind of media player do you have? You might've messed with the eq's or some weird setting.
|
It's not just the music, it's all the sounds, the echo of the 'MSN bleep' is really starting to piss me off.
But I use iTunes. |
Look in the System Tray in the bottom right hand corner (by the clock). You will have the usual windows speaker icon and another blue and yellow speaker icon. Click this icon once. Go to the Sound Effect Tab. Look for the environment drop-down box. Change this to none.
If you don't have the blue and yellow icon, look for something similar. Dave |
I couldn't find the 'none' option :(
|
Restart your computer. Mine used to do that before I got a new ram card. It always happened when Bitcomet would be working.
|
Thanks for your help guys
|
How do you make a compressed or zipped folder?
|
Right click on the folder you want to zip/compress...choose, send to...:thumb:
|
so like...how do i partition ym hard drive..yeah lame question..i know how..but i dont want to erase my old OS
|
I use partition magic. Found a torrent for it with a crack and all that jazz. You'd like it really easy interface and it even formats the partition for you. Try downloading it on someone's computer with DSL or cable and use alcohol 120% to burn the cd image. The crack should be in the image so just explore the cd when you put it in. Good luck

Zone Alarm works fine for most purposes. If you have a router it should have a NAT Firewall built in. There are others but I can't remember the names (Sygate might have a free one).

I have a ftp server on this computer too, so I'm looking for one that won't mess with my transfers. (I have a firewall on my router and I have a commercial one that's expired). Oh and is there anyway I can change how my bandwidth is used? I only get 45kbs uploads and that brings down my downloads. I want it to be about even (I have a 512 connection that runs steady at 606). |
Enable the firewall on your router, close all the ports, then open them as required. This is the only to ensure you are secure (and is much better than the ZoneAlarm type firewall). Your FTP server will be using port 20 or 21.
Regarding bandwidth. If you are on ADSL there's not a lot you can do (the A stands for asymetric, as in more download than upload bandwidth). However, your ISP may be able to offer you a different connection package to get better upload speeds. If you use a public ISP (as opposed to commercial), don't tell them you are running an FTP server. Most of the license agreements don't allow this. Dave |
Yeah, I have ADSL so that's no fun and I'm not paying for it so I can't complain much. I've only got port 21 open on my router firewall and on my other firewall. But I'll check out ZoneAlarm too. Thanks for the help man.

http://www.freeserifsoftware.com/sof...us/default.asp It takes a little while to adapt to it but it's free. If you use torrents just go on www.torrentspy.com and search photoshop |
