Ah no, I'm from the south (Newport), everyone speaks English here, and nobody here really takes the Welsh language seriously anymore. I can just about manage "bora da" and that's it.

heh, im from swansea, same thing, but we insist on being patriotic when the footballs on, or the rugby. plus im originally from llanelli so i know bits and bobs, mastering the spelling would be a step forward mind you....

heh, round the same time the blacks were first sold off in africa as slaves the english began slaughtering the welsh in their masses for speaking our language it was seen as common then, and the welsh we're seen as lower it was a crime for a welsh man to murder an english man but not the other way round, kids we're whippedin schools if heard speaking welsh. in fact theres still a place in england,, an extremely small spot of land in which if a welsh man stands he can be shot down by an english man legally with a bow and arrow and killed. but they must have a sign put up or something i'd have guessed.

there's been loads of campaigns to teach the welsh their own language again, theres welsh schools and english speaking schools have compulsary welsh taught in them and i saw a poster today that said in llanelli 22000 + people now speak welsh which is a step in the right direction, i am extremely content with learning it soon, ill have to, i don't think i could live with myself if i didn't, im very much a patriot. but for now ill just have to live with it...

It's a dead language, there is no point.

I'm not a very patriotic Welshman, sometimes I wish I was born into an upper-middle class English family, that would have been sweet.

Ah well. Being Welsh does have it's positive points.

well, all of the things you said could be copy pasted as far as croatians are concerned, we were ruled, killed and abused by austrians, venetians and hungarians and they desperately tried to inforce their language upon us....but as you can see, we have prevailed and the croatian language is very much alive....which in turn would make the welsh pussy quiters and croatians mighty warriors that succesfully stood up to nations that were far more powerful...
