I haven't really experienced anything too creepy. My family has though, that thing where they suffocate you in your sleep, that has happened to 2 of my uncles and my mom.. and my grandpa got scratched up by a cat. The only thing that I've experienced, is when my mom died on the way home from her funeral (I was 8 by the way) she was sitting on top of the rear view mirror and she blew me a kiss, and then I looked away and when I looked back she was gone. I know that sounds really stupid, but its true.
Anyway, supposedly there is a ghost in the restroom at my work, all the girls are afraid to go in there, and I think its just a crappy bathroom, with leaky faucets.. but I was in there today and it was quiet when I went in, and then when I shut the stall the water started running and a door started swinging.. it was really creepy! =/ |

Oh yeah.. I forgot. when my my mom and my uncles got suffocated, (this sounds really stupid, and I'm sorry for that) they said "In the name of Jesus Christ, I command you to leave" and they repeated that over and over and it slowly released. I'm not really religious, but it seemed to have worked so..????

[QUOTE=Stu;199588]i most definetly do believe in ghosts. i dont believe when we die we go to heaven, i believe theres another level of existence.or "plane" if you like. when we die we go to either this higher level of existence or if the death was particulary traumatic or tragic our spirits can be stuck on earth due to this emotional attachment.
Isn't that what heaven is? Just another level of existance? Its not like we'll have wings and halos and hop around from cloud to cloud! haha.. |

There's a Ghost in my laboratory!
Well, that's what I tell the other PhD students here. It puts them off working at night and at the weekend, so I get the equipment all to myself. Bahahaha! The evil!

How is it not having a full life to think that in essence you originally came from the surroundings and when you die you'll gradually disperse back into the surroundings? I think it's quite nice. Sure it doesn't have the subtle egotism associated with the concept of a 'soul' (some thing that magically created for the world when you're concieved or born, is magically whisked away when you die and makes you oh so special because some amazing being created you just so you could be so very special) but I think it's the best opinion to have because it seems closest to the truth. I personally don't see how anybody could be unhappy accepting that their time as a concious being is only temporary and that they weren't created for any particular reason (except your mum and dad were feeling broody/frisky/drunk). How is it not enough to know that you're doing what your doing and simply find fulfillment in your daily actions? It's not necessary to make up blatant bull**** about there being some kind of reason for it all.

DRMO - how can you know that after we die the world will still be here?
And quite frankly, I'm sick and tired of hearing "how can you believe you just won't exist anymore? Can you ever comprehend that?" The simple answer is, no, not really, though the closest I can get to wrapping my head around it is to think about what it was like before I was born. But really, can YOU comprehend what it would be like to exist forever? That seems to me just as mindblowing. |

"The world is not a creation of my own imagination. Although my interpretation of everything that exists around me depends on my own way of seeing things, what exists around me does actually exist and would still exist even if I were not witnessing it." To an extent, that's a matter of taste because I could bring myself to think that the furniture and buildings around me were all 'imaginary', I could even accept that the trees and animals were imaginary. But I don't think I could accept that the people who I interact with every day were just created by my own mind. Even if it turned out to be true, I'd probably prefer to kid myself that they really existed. And if I further the assumption that the people around me are real to make the assumption that their mind and its relation to the world is similar to mine, then the argument would be that if lots of people die every day, yet the world is still here, then my death and the discountinuation of my thoughts would have exactly the same impact on the world and it's existence. That being, the world would continue to exist pretty much the same without me. As an aside - if the world only existed within my own mind, I'm pretty sure I'd be a successful pornstar by now, not sat at a desk wondering where the potassium bromide I ordered went to and bored, bored, bored. And that Indian chick who sits behind me would come in naked occasionally. |
