I used to wear those things when I was 14, prior to it being a fashion statement. I fucking hated them then, and I hate them now. They're hardly even shoes. They were just the cheapest thing around.
And now that they've been pumped up by the music media and faved teen idols, everyone is all gaga for them... and the current price is ridiculous for how little shoe is actually there.
Plus, they look retarded.

Thanks.

I"m with you there man, I bought a pair and they messed my left foot up something fierce. Too tight for my feet and with absolutely no arch support.

If you do a pricing in USD, it's around 45 dollars. That's still too much money for so little shoe quality. But that doesn't even matter, because trends provide the market, and the prices follow.
Inflation isn't even a factor. Chucks prices have shot up due to demand as a result of trend whores. It's not an assumption, it's a fact.
I realize that happens a lot in every aspect of materialistic product, but Chucks really takes the damn cake.
You could probably make a better shoe out of construction paper.
And if we're basing our Chuck-lust on visual qualities... well.. heh... you could make a better shoe out of construction paper.

It was a fad, but it's currently a zombie.

Well, they're still miles cheaper than other shoes here and I think that appeals to people. I don't really have a problem with the quality of the shoe. I like them. Plus there's hardly any sneaker-type shoes that don't look lame on girls. But I can see what you're saying... how they've brought out all of these 'special edition' chucks with lame, novel patterns and shit on them. Anyway, I'm not going to reject something I like just because it's trendy. These days pretty much everything is commodified anyway.

Oh I totally agree with not rejecting something on the basis of trendiness... I mean, ultimately that's just as trendy and even more ridiculous.

I just know that there are better shoes out there, for a guy anyway, who just so happens to not be trying to look like every other hipster jackass at the sake of his own comfort and bank roll.

Taste is taste, yea I know. But when it comes to Chucks... I just look at them and know that the explosion of unfounded love for them has everything to do with a trend, and absolutely nothing to do with a quality shoe.

I like Chucks, myself. Period.

I was also gonna put a picture of my heels but I decided not to. But you go Vanilla!

Astronomer 06-16-2009 10:27 PM

I can't stand heels. They are bad for your feet and they hurt :( I don't care if they make your legs look hot or that I'm only 5'2".

I could just hug you.
Finally, a real woman.

Wow, $45 for Chucks now? Crazy! I bought my girlfriend a pair like 3 years ago and I paid about $20. Anyway, I had some back when I was 12 or something, they were teal high-tops. They were in style then too...in fact, they've never gone out of style.

But me personally? I find them very uncomfortable, and don't like the looks of them enough to warrant wearing such an uncomfortable shoe.

*nods head*

Exactly.
So you know that the poor sods who're bearing the cross of horribly aching feet are doing so for the sake of style.
(style isn't worth it)

Do you even care about shoes at all? I suppose because I love fashion and model that I adore heels but how could you not like them! The fact that you're 5'2 (as am I) means they give you a sense of power and height.
