So I'm watching the men's downhill competition, and my god these guy's are amazing atheletes. Anyone who's taken a run down a race course will agree that it takes serious balls to do what they do. They're flying down what amounts to an insanely steep ice rink at over 100 km/h. I've taken runs down the men's downhill course at Lake Louise, where this year's worl championships were held, and I can safely say there are few moments when I've ever been that scared when I was skiing, and I've had some scary moments. The entire time you're flying down the hill, it's sheer ice, and while you want to bite your edges in and slow down, you know that if you make too much of an adjustment, you're gonna slip out, and you're gonna crash, HARD. Not to mention how insanely stron these guys are. I just watched one guy fly over a jump, good 15 feet (horizontally) and land WAY on the tails of his skis. I've done that, and it takes serious muscle to pull out of a backseat landing, let alone doing it at over 100 km/h.

HOLY SH*T!!! This is an amazing competition. HUGE upset for Men's Downhill, a french skier, Antoine Deneriaz won the Gold medal, NO one expected him to do so well, props for him. He won by about .74 seconds, HUGE lead, and it was really really unexpected too.

Oh, and spike, croatia has Janica Kostelic, she's competing in all five alpine skiing events, and has come off a major injury and is now a major contender for multiple golds. She won four alpine medals in salt lake, and is one of the most favoured women in the alpine skiing events. The women's events will be interesting to watch, after all the hype around Bode Miller, and after he REALLY didn't deliver, I hope janica lives up to everything being said about her. The good thing is that she's not nearly as ****y as miller, so if she doesn't ski well, it wont make her look as bad.

nice info on Janica, just to clarify, the woman won a race in each of the disciplines this year in the world cup, the combination, the slalom, giant slalom, super-g and downhill, only petra kromberger did that before her in one season, so she stands to win in any event ( although, realistically, it's not likely to happen ). if she wins just one more medal ( in salt lake she won 3 gold medals and one silver, and she didn't even compete in the downhill....btw..she was just 20 ) she will become the most succesful woman in the history of alpine skiing. quite rediculous when you think about the fact that croatia doesn't even have proper mountains, just a couple of hills and maybe 2 ski resorts, while the likes of sweden, austria, canada and america are eating her dust.

and btw jibber, i don't think you can say that bode underdelivered just yet, i believe he's competing in all the disciplines and just like Janica, stands to win any of them.....

bode miller goes out partying the night before, then decides to use brand new skies he's never used on one of the biggest days of his career.

and yet i can't even say that's an excuse, that just the way he does things...turned out to **** him over this time

i cant believe apollo anton ohno blew his chance at 1500m speedskating gold? he had 2nd and didnt even need to pass to make it to the finals(1st and 2nd in each heat make finals). i was so disappointed. shaun white definitely own3d the halfpipe. and singles luge was also exciting. 80mph on a sled is outrageous. and then on the mens cross-country pursuit the guy went down in the beginning, and went from like 77th to 2nd place. amazing.
