you mean they're only showing ski racing and that's it? They should be showinf freestyle, it's mogul skiing with two jumps, and most of the time they do sh*tty unstylish jumps too. One girl did a REALLY nice 3 with a mute grab. Super smooth, nice sttyle in the air, but the judges arent looking for that at all. They should really just take the jumps out of the mogul competition and have a slopestyle or pipe event, because the majority of the freestyle skiers are rediculously good in the moguls (for which I give them HUGE amounts of respect), but as for jumps, they suck.

moguls are the bumps created in snow with small spaces to navigate in between. here's a picture of a compeition freestyle course. Skiers have to race down the mogul field, and go off a jump (and do a trick), they land and then imediately enter the moguls again, which will lead to another jump, where the vast majority of skiers will do a trick of greater difficulty than the first jump. Then they ski down the rest of the mogul field. They are scored on speed, and tecnique in the moguls and on their jumps. here's a picture of a competition freestyle course. Notice the bumps in the course, those are moguls. On a regular ski hill run they'd be spaced much more sporatically, and they'd vary in size.
http://www.ruka.fi/site_images/Mogul...pysty_pien.jpg a slopestyle course is a competition course consisting of terrain park features. There are major slopestyle comps for both skiing and snowboarding, but so far neither are an olympic event (only half pipe for snowboarding). A mute grab (for skiers anyways) is when you reach down and grab your ski in front of the toe piece of your bindings, but not the tip, that's a different grab. If you spin left, you'd grab your left ski with your right hand. If you spin right grab your right ski with your left hand. Now, there's also reverse/leading/opposite mute grabs. They differ from a regular mute grab in that if you were spinning left you would grab your right ski with your left hand, so so the grab is done with the leading hand in the rotation, the opposite or reverse of a regular mute. also, if you grab further up the front of the ski, it's called a critical. If you grab the actual tip of the ski, then it's a nose grab. |
another medal for canada! Cindy Klassen took bronze in the 3000m speed skating event today.
And, Bode Miller finished 5th in the men's downhill. After all his talk, bragging about being the best, going on and on and seeking the spotlight in every opportunity he got, he finished 5th. Talking big is ok, if you win. Being swaggering and overconfident is fine, if you can actually deliver. Tool. He'd better place in the men's downhill combined, or he's gonna end up being even more embarrased. |
so bode is an ass? i always kinda liked him, because he's so good in basically all the disciplines.....i'm sure he's gonna win an event....
|
he's an amazing skier, don't get me wrong, he's just so cocky. I'd respect him a lot more if he had a humble attitude towards winning. he doesn't, at all.

Jibber, I have a question.
Why don't they just have the guy or gal who jumps the furthest win the ski jumping? Technical jiggery pokery and style points makes it rubbish, I want to see people falling over because they tried to sneak an extra metre dammit. |
****in USA hockey's gunna take the gold for men and women!
