i think it might be because theyre afraid that theyre opinions might not carry as much weight on a new forum, because they will not be as well known and respected there as they are here.

.....it's not a junior high playground.....if you have a well thought out and valid argument, your opinions will carry their own weight, especially since people on a forum made especially for politics will most likely be mature enough to realize that your post count doesnt mean a thing

exactly the way i feel

Alright. Bottom line is, this is a music forum. Lately, more than ever, the lounge has been the most active forum on the boards. Personally, I view this as a negative thing since this is, after all, a music forum. I'd be really interested to see how many members actually stuck around if the mods closed the entire lounge for a week or so. Honestly, I think if that happened, the discussion about music would become a whole lot more interesting and in-depth since it would be the only thing available. I'd actually love to see the lounge closed for a week or so, just to see how many people are actually here to talk about music.

I`m sure a lot of people would go.

But it still doesn`t change the fact that it`s people who do post in the music forums asking for others.

^If people leave, that that seriously says something. They registered at musicbanter not loungebanter.

I second this.

.....So you think that the three or four people asking for a political forum are the only ones on this board discussing music? Dead f*cking wrong. Ethan and I visit the music forums just as much as the lounge, and although I think vanilla generally makes good posts, I can't think of a single time recently that I've seen her post in the music forums. On the other hand, there's a ton of members who have huge amounts of posts in the music forum, yet I haven't seen a single post of theirs in the lounge. Your argument would be valid if it were true, but it's not, at all.

i agree with this as far as the closing the lounge for a week. i think that would be a good idea. (although it doesnt adress the idea of a politics forum), i think it might help to rid us of the lounge trolls that have made little or no contribution to the music related parts of the forum.

although i think if the lounge was closed....we would get a bunch of threads asking...."why is the lounge closed?" and in addition to that, those who are known for posting nowhere but the lounge....would just end up filling the music forums with spam. so the negativity works both ways.
