Simple solution. Create a political* thread. Then everyone interested in politics subscribes to said thread, and doesn't have to wade through the "seas of spam" that are obviously such a hardship.
And seeing as how they'd be popular, they'd always be close to the top of the new posts so that casual viewers of the board would notice them. Christ, it really is that easy. *substitute political for whatever other non-catered for subject as desired.

But why are you so limited in your thinking? Why are you so against other forums? If you don`t want to use them , don`t use them. I`ll say my point again , if people who DO actively use the music forums want something better than the lounge to post other stuff in why shouldn`t they?

Ok, since you're just completely ignoring the fact that it takes 2 seconds to click on to a different site to disucuss another topic, I'll try a different approach. Can you HONESTLY say that musicbanter would be a good place to discuss politics? Consider the average demographic of this site. The VAST majority of posters are really really young, and the reason that past political threads have failed on this board is because there's simple not enough members on here who are genuinely interested and informed. There are intelligent people on these boards, but the forum would dry out rediculously fast because there would only be a few members who posted in it. Personally, I love talking about politics and debating about politics, but I learned VERY QUICKLY that it's tedious talking about it here, because there simply arent enough people to get a really interesting debate going. That's why I took the two seconds to google "politics forums", and I go there now.

Fair enough
But I still don`t see how having a couple of sub forums in the lounge to make things more cohesive would hurt anything. All i`m advocating is about 2 or 3 sub forums for specific topics in the lounge where it could be kept away from the spamming that goes on in there.Thats hardly going to change the direction of the entire forum like you seem to think it will.
