I agree with this, but while were on the subject of flaming noobs i dont think we should should point fingers (not saying anyone did) at people who flame noobs cause to be honest alot of noobs can be total idiots. The location thing is kind of petty big3 and its not that big of a thing i mean if its something totally stupid like "i own all your bases" then i suppose its lame, but usually its not that bad.
I think you should add proper spelling to that list, because alot of noobs get attacked just because they're like "omg liek u suk" and yes, thats annoying. |

word.
1. before you reach at least 100-200 posts, and have made somewhat of a name for yourself and established that you have some knowledge of music, before you begin making posts that are abrasive towards others. if you do this too early...people will think of you as a closed minded, ignorant fool, and will form an opinion on you that you do not want pinned on you. especially by the more respected and well known members. 2. dont use internet lingo. it makes you look like an imbecile. dont spell the word "like" this way :"lyke". dont use the word "no" or "kno" as a substitute for the word "know". if they are mistakes, that will be obvious, but typing like that is an instant notifier that you are not smart. 3. making comments that a complete genre "sucks" is ignorant. you will immediately be known as a spammer. if you dont like a genre, dont post in its corresonding forum

Just to expand on Perfect's number 2 rule. Don't use the form of "internet Lingo" regarded to as Leet Speak. More on the subject here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leet_speak God that is what annoys me the most.

OK thats the way, its not me adding to my list, its us, as a music community adding things.
The location thing (i'll repeat) is not something thats obnoxious on its own, but something that adds to other things. I've written this about 5 posts in (roughly) but why read things? Anywho, all these suggestions are just that, suggestions. No one has to follow them. Its just a clue in as to what is or is not going to fly well here.

more to add.
4. If you come off as an elitist prick, the rest of the forum members are going to be elitist pricks toward you. - do not make posts such as; Quote:
5. read the *Education* threads. one of the biggest mistakes a newbie can make that will get (him/her)self flamed is to misclassify a band. especially the bands that take on the image of a genre but are infact poppy mainstream. -green day (although their older albums somewhat fit the genre of pop punk) is not a punk band. along with good charlotte, fallout boy, etc. -my chemical romance, the used, etc..are not emo. -do not classify the genre known as "emo" by the trend that has become ever so popular lately. that is a fashion trend that many bands have used as a stepping stool to get themselves noticed. bands such as hawthorne heights. true emo is not what the media portrays it as. most real emo bands are not very well known by the people who watch MTV as a source of music. 6. dont intentionally start petty arguments and try to shut down or out witt the members that take your bait. this will get you known as a spammer from early on, and thats not something you want happening. in many cases the members that argue with you (assuming the argument is about a musical genre, for example) will know more about the genre than you. dont take this as a bad thing. it is an opportunity to learn, and to expand your musical knowledge.
