What do you drive

I'll start - I have been through 4 cars, my current ride is my favorite by far it's a '94 Toyota 4Runner 4X4. It's the first 4 wheel drive I've had and it's nice to have here in Denver, although now I am always having to drive my friends to the slopes.

P.S. I have always had to buy my own cars, my Mommy and Daddy never supplied any vehicle for me ever...

This is one of them. 1990 Ford Fairmont.
And two more are in my avatar and user profile.
1960 Vauxhall Victor F-series and 1959 Vauxhall Velox PA

Ihave always bought my own also. That way you get what you want.
Been through 38 since I started driving

Kashmir86 01-02-2006 03:41 PM

You guys have weird cars down there. The fairmont quit selling in the early 80's here I think.

Yeah, but yours was totally different to the Aussie variant or at least after 1970 it was. They are still one of the best selling rear wheel drive cars around.
It's nice to drive something a bit different to the rice that dominates the road today.

I don't drive a car because I am not of age. But I have mine picked out, seeing as I will always be driving into the city I would need a car with fuel economy hence me choosing *drumroll* the Toyota Echo

Trauma 01-02-2006 07:17 PM

Most of the time I drive 5'5-5'7 leggy blondes.
But hey, there's always room for a crash and change of vehicle.
My insurance company covers that.
XXX, it's a branch of AAA

any suggestions?

illusion 01-02-2006 08:55 PM

Nice, that second one looks more like a family car then a one person car (unless you have a family?) so I would personally go for the first one

Kashmir86 01-02-2006 08:57 PM

get the 4runner. You will instantly fall in love with it. VWs are pieces of crap, I know because my dad has been a mechanic for 30 years. Toyotas last forever. Mines got 195k miles on it still running strong. Plus the 4runners can go anywhere seriously, and you can haul around 4 of your friends and a bunch of crap in the back. Get the toyota hands down.

Yeah, PerfectionThruSilence, I've been meaning to ask you, how are your wife and four kids doing?

You crazy 16 year old you, they grow up so fast nowadays.

Kashmir86 01-02-2006 09:07 PM

the past 3 cars I've had were small 2 doors, a geo metro to start, a dodge daytona shelby, and then a mustang gt, and to be honest, my 4runner is so much nicer becuase it actually has ROOM. You can haul stuff with it, go up in the mountains, and bring more than 1 person with you. Its really nice, I am single with no family or intentions of having one anytime soon, and I have finally gotten past the craze of having a fast car, and wised up and went for something more practical. They don't have to be boring either, mine's got a small lift on it with 33" tires, an intake kit and a custom dual exhaust with flowmasters on it, and some other stuff to make it unique. I love it, I'm gonna drive it until it completely wears out or rusts out, whichever comes first. When I get a digital cam I will post a pic.

Trauma 01-02-2006 09:15 PM

But seriously.
At the end of this year I'll either get...

this..

this..
http://www.forddesktops.com/desktops...ocus_RS_15.jpg

or this.

but I would have to wait a couple months into 2007 for the motorcycle.

Vehicles are dirty.

Kashmir86 01-02-2006 09:18 PM

Explorers are bad news. Ford Focuses are pretty cool, im not realy big on the import/sport compact scene though. Choppers are cool, my dad's got one hes workin on building out of an old shovelhead harley. He's also got a Night Train and a Sportster. They are fun to ride but I'm not a big Motorcycle fan, I like dirtbiking here and there, that's about it.

PerFeCTioNThrUSileNCe 01-02-2006 09:38 PM

how is the mileage on your 4runner? and the insurance?

if i decide i want something that will just get me around im thinking of something like.....

Haha, maybe. Right now, it's chill'd out in my garage waiting for a new alternator. I love Chevy's though, real easy maintenance. And my truck is so rugid, it's been through a lot of beatings, but it doesn't look it from the outside.

PerFeCTioNThrUSileNCe 01-03-2006 12:53 AM

ive heard chevys stand up to just about anything. with the older ones its practically impossible to put a damn dent in them (i threw a wrench at one in a junkyard in mexico and it didnt do squat.) but theyre gas hogs if im not mistaken. my uncle has a suburban that gets a little more than 12 miles a gallon...is it the same with yours?

Big time. During the late summer gas hike, it was BAD. About $60-70 per fill up.

My truck has hit just about everything that could possibly be on or adjacent to a road. And, no damage....at least on my truck that is :)

The Fairmont is the everyday hack. You know rain,hail,snow..etc whereas the others are for fine days, weekends and shows. And the Fairmont's agood tow car.

Gas is $1.36 NZ per litre.Expensive, but due to my job i very rarely have to pay for it.

It's a fifth of a gallon plus convert $2.50 into NZ $ = $5.80 a gallon so it aint that cheap

How's that?

PerFeCTioNThrUSileNCe 01-03-2006 01:43 AM

eh...because america sucks...and those of the male gender under the age of 25 usually have outrageous insurance costs here. also depending on the type of car you drive.....so, if i were to get a 4runner like kashmir suggested....my insurance would be insane. the pasat would be a little less....but a little less practical as well.

Insurance isn't compulsory here, but with all the cars I own it's worthwhile

illusion 01-03-2006 02:03 AM

That sucks that insurance is compulsory in America. In Australia we have gigantic excess so that if we stuff up we have to pay a hell of a lot.

It gets about 22-23 on the highway, and 17-18 around town. Mine's a V6, a 4 banger would do a little better I'm sure, also mine is a 5 speed which is a little better on gas than an auto. Insurance runs me about 750 a year, which isnt bad but I also have a pretty good record, only 1 ticket from like 3 years ago.
