I think he was something like 95% deaf.
He`d have these huge cans strapped to his head playing stuff like Slayer & Exodus really really loud so he could hear them.

I read this thread this morning before I left for work, and thought about it all day. I think, if I had to lose one of the five senses, I'd probably choose the ability to see.
I mean, if you lose your sense of touch, that's it. You can't feel. If you lose your sense of taste, that's it. You can't taste. Same with smell. I'm no scientist, but I'm fairly certain smell and taste are tied in together, and if you lose one, the other is damaged to a certain extent. As far as the sense of hearing, that is what connects you with the world outside your mind, not sight. I can hear my kids laughing downstairs, or arguing, or whatever. I don't need to see them to know they are around. The neighbor up the street, right now, is mowing his lawn. I can't see it, but I hear it. If you can't hear, you can only see what is happening in front of you. Without sight, you can hear in surround sound. To not be able to see would mostly likely be my choice. I have plenty in my mind to see, even in the dark. Of course, it's easy to say when you have all your senses, you know? I'm sure someone who is blind would gladly give up any other sense to be able to see. Here's a test we had when I was in 8th grade or so....Everyone in the classroom had an ability taken from them. There was a hat with slips of paper with something on each one, and whatever one you drew, you had to spend the entire following Saturday with that disability, then write about it. There were all five senses in there, among other things. I drew "no left arm". Now, I'm left handed, so it was tough. I spent a whole Saturday with my left arm inside my shirt, and I'm here to tell you, you never realize how much is taken for granted until you don't have it.

Well, being deaf certainly hampers your ability to enjoy music. But you still have the ability tho feel the vibration of the tones.
