Hostile Attitudes

I've noticed that we are becoming increasing hostile to newcomers on this forum. Now some such as millybig/bloodfox/etc. and skaterbabii69/ilovebrandon/etc. have given us reason to be wary but everyonce in a while we get a good newb who might be scared off because of our uncouth behavior.

I for one have decided to be more tolerant of newcomers. Now maybe my score in the Horrible Person thread will go down but that one isn't exactly a hotbed of activity anymore.

But anyway, I will be nicer. and the rest of you should be so also. Now I'm not saying adopt a Spikey attitude. But lighten up a bit. Like right-track.

word.

Nice? Na that aint me. Tolerant? Maybe. Depends on my mood.

As long as the new people arn't idiotic morons like the recent few, then I have no reason to be mean. So really, continuing on as normal.

Cheese 12-11-2005 12:49 AM

I'll always have a hostile attitude

Mr Sensitive 12-11-2005 03:51 AM

I'm quite new and I haven't felt any hostile feelings.

2. It's about how you spend that length of time, not the time itself spent.

Ooo...that sounded mystical.

Personally, I get an impression from each of the newbies that tells me whether or not i like them. If they come off as arrogant, spineless, self important jackasses, then I tend not to like them too much. The most recent account of this being "Unitedbyrock". I mean, the day he joined, he started making these elitist comments and it just annoyed me. He assumed that because he was older than a certain person, he was immediately more musically knowledgible than that person. Things like that tend to annoy the hell out of me, and im sure the same goes for many of the other members of this forum. That is why I was particularly hostile towards him.

You may remember a member by the username of "Evan" i believe...

Now on the other hand, I felt that I, along with the rest of the people who responded to his intro thread, welcomed him almost as if he werent a new member at all, but rather a returning "veteran". This is because he, unlike "Unitedbyrock" actually demonstrated that he had an expansive knowledge of music, and he didn't make elitist comments. In fact, I seem to remember him saying something to the effect of that he was here to expand his musical knowledge. (Correct me if I'm wrong on that, but it seems to be what I remember his attitude being like.)

So I, for one, will not change the way I welcome the newbies to the forum. If they come off as jackasses, and make stupid, elitist comments, then I'm going to treat them like an elitist, jackass. If they come off as a humble, nice person that is here to discuss music and learn more about music, like many of the newer members here, then I will treat them like a person who is also here to talk, and is also here to learn alongside them. Call me a jerk, call me anti-social, but I'm not going to go out of my way to welcome someone who acts like a total a-hole before they even know where the hell they are. Thats just me...

:)

Nicely done. But then thats not really the problem, its when people just go into random introduction threads, and if they're not immediately blown away by an extensive knowledge of music, they're straight away given comments like "welcome even though you'll never come back, effing n00bz." So you're okay anyway, I dont remember you doin anythin like that :)

I believe in what you are saying and also think that we should give them a chance. For instance if they come on and say hi then it's not nice to say "Welcome n00b and you'll never come back"etc. But since noone has ever really done that then I totally agree. I completely agree with what you are saying and let's also give newbies a chance when it is their first post....Unless it's from one of those nitwits in which case yes, those newbies should NEVER ever be given a chance. Let's learn together yay!!!!!!

Mr Sensitive 12-13-2005 11:35 AM
