This is how I see it, however some new members are instantly slaughtered before anyone even gets a chance to get to know them.

I'd like to see more people on here give noobs the benefit of the doubt.
A friendly welcome does'nt do any harm either.

Sneer 12-14-2005 12:17 PM

i dont do that. in fact any of the "seasoned" members dont do that unless they weant to make thmeselves look more credible by picking on the new kids. but their just tossers. funnily enough you tend to find the noobs are the most negative towards noobs. if that makes sense?

sleepy jack 12-14-2005 12:23 PM

I've seen it done to people who type "liek 4 r u".

right-track 12-14-2005 12:24 PM

Maybe if some of the more "seasoned" members like yourself posted the odd welcome, then others would follow.
Just a thought. This site has the potential to become a better forum with more serious music discussions.

People here should make more of an effort to encourage new members to post responsibly and the spammers may take the spamming somewhere else.

Sneer 12-14-2005 12:34 PM

yeah well im a lazy arse. i dont post if i cant be bothered..which is quite often. i just dont see the need to post them a welcome, doesnt mean i hate the very epitome of their soul. if their worth acknowledgement they get it as a reply to their posts. i think ignoring spammers is a better option.

same.

and people should do that as well.

and Perfection, UnitedByRock was mad about how a 16 year old schooled him. but there are others that we sorta shrug off. like AITA said, saying welcome though you;ll never return n00b defeats the purpose.

i believe one of the first threads i made ( never did make that intro thread )was about interpol ( i've read it recently, i admit, i was a bit ....new....) and i got flamed for not caring if they were joy division's rip off's.....and i saw that big3 was the one defending me oh so long ago.....it was strange.....and right after that i made a thread about hating metallica ......also not a particularly bright post, but that thread lived on for ages, i'm actually surprised not to see it recently, i remember that for months, every newbie metallica fan stubled on it and resorted to petty namecalling.....ahh.....the good ol' days....
also, i always try to greet to newbies, but recently i just don't feel like it anymore, most of them make an intro thread like " hi, i just joined this forum, it looks nice, wanna chat?" and that just turns me off....i wish they say more about themselves, musical prefferences and stuff.....

^ what he said. i wish people could just integrate themselves and not make a show of it. my first thread was a negative one too, but there was a decent response. ah well, how i've grown. besides, since i've been here it seems like every newb was either a 12 year old girl (or a 40 year old pedophile) or a doucher just here to bash emo.

very true, i think the last good intro thread and a good newbie was hmm....i forget his name, asian dude living in paris....all the other newbies are really, well, not worth my attention....besides, 90% of new members that make an intro thread tend not to stick arround, so after i've greeted 100 newbies and tried to be friendly and none of them stay....i really don't feel like it anymore...not to mention that, for me, a good nickname is really importaint, and when i see a nick like "alkčsdkčsdgnbxvukase" i tend to avoid looking not only in the intro thread but also at any post they make to be perfectly honest....

I did the same. What the introduction threads say is "I'm a n00b that knows nothing, here is a chance to flame me"
