I need a name change .. asap
I don't know why I would ever say I was straight edge. I was never actually clean of alcohol. "If you use to be straight edge, you never were" I'll go with that. I was.. never straight edge. I won't ever say.. I was straight edge. Because, frankly, I wasn't. Straight edge is a way of life; it’s about being in control of your own actions and making decisions for yourself. About 2 years ago, I thought it'd be a good idea, considering I thought of having a good few years ahead of me in sports/school. I was also really into the whole "hardcore scene". (which now, I understand, has to be one of the most ridiculous things ever) I was raised in a family where everyone does/has done drugs. My mother has a drinking problem and she smokes more marijuana than all of my friends.. combined. My (12 year old) sister is one of those "mall rat" kinda kids. I don't know how else to put it. She's gotten into lots of drugs, alcohol, sex, etc. I didn't want to fall into any of that. calling yourself straight edge when you're under the legal drinking age of 21 is silly. when you're under 21, you shouldn't be drinking anyways. when you're under 18, you shouldn't be smoking anyways. when you're any age, you shouldn't be putting yourself out for promiscuous sex .. anways. Im sick of all these kids claming their straight edge, and not even knowing what it fucking is. They are treating it like a fucking fashion. People at 15, thinking they know everything about it. Saying they know more about the lifestyle than anyone else. Straight edge relates to hardcore/punk music and always will. Just the other day, a girl in my grade class was waiting in the salad bar line and she dropped something. She turns around, drops down to pick it up, I look at the back of her sweatshirt and it reads "STRAIGHT EDGE; not a trend, but a life in hxc". First of all, that's a retarded quote. Second, it says "hxc" on it. And last time I checked, this chick was into riding horses and Dashboard EPs. I'm not saying "being straight edge is STUPID!". I respect it so much. It's just not .. for me. I guess it never was. That's all. I had to get it out. So I thought I'd post it here for you guys to .. observe. |

Straight up. You don't have to be straight edge to have boundaries and morals, so why not try to just follow your own beliefs without having to have any labels!?

^Because thats not hXc. Quite simply.
Im not judging everyone thats straight edge here, but a lot of people think that way.. Whether they admit it or not. Specially now that its pretty much one of the new trends to be sXe, there's more pathetic liars around in their teens than usual.

Maybe I'm too old or not down with it enough or something, but straight edge makes no sense to me, and just strikes me as being for a group of people who want a feeling of superiority over others.
I have no need to label how I live my life.

I remember a couple years ago when a couple of my friends were talking about drugs and I said I wasn't into drugs, and one of them said I was Straight Edge... looking back now I realize how stupid that was. People should think for themselves and weigh the decisions which in the end are very personal decisions, instead of deciding to dedicate themselves to a certain group for whatever reason (to have someone to relate with?) In any case, my opinions regarding drugs eventually changed but looking back it's pretty clear I was never "straight edge."
