From what I understand my school didn't actually start saying the pledge until after 9/11 happened, because at that point everyone felt the compulsion to prove their patriotism. If I had known about 9/11 in advance I would have invested all my money into some flag-making company because right after that happened every single ****ing house had a flag on the porch and ever car had thirteen american flag stickers. So yeah, it's not even genuine displays of patriotism, its compulsory nationalism.

And yeah, I don't actually say it but that doesn't mean I can't bitch about it. Sometimes I don't stand but I've gotten bitched at for doing that so generally I stand.
