Question for adidasss.
What does the average Croatian think of the 'typical' Englishman?

Only to start with , i`ll ask you a question then.

In Doctor Who the most famous race of aliens are the daleks...

In every Doctor Who reference book i`ve ever read it says Dalek means 'Far & distant thing' in Serbo-Croat.

Is this true?

first of all, no offence, but i don't appreciate the use of the word serbo-croatian, yes , our languages are almost identical, but for reasons known to you i'd appreciate it if you didn't use that term anymore....now to answer your question, yes, that is correct

right-track....we only have contacts with rich tourists that come here so the average croatian's perception of english people is that they're all white like cheese and have a lot of money and class....of course, i know that's not true

question, does the average brittish person know croatia exists? have you seen any pictures of croatia?have you ever heard of general Gotovina?....there's no point in asking the same from our american friends, from personal experience on this site, they have no clue croatia exists or where it is....i'm curious about the brittish because we're on the same continent so you would expect them to know, but as i have seen with my own 2 eyes, the french have no clue that croatia exists....which is quite shocking....

oh, the reason i asked my questions is also because the average croatian is i think aware that brittish people still think yugoslavia exists....either that or they still think it's unsafe to come here because there was a war here......like 10 years ago....

General Gotovina is wanted for war crimes isn't he?
And yes adidasss, the average Englishman is aware of Croatia's existence and know it as member of the former Yugoslavia.
However, it would be fair to say that the average Englishman is unaware of Croatia's history and the part it played in the 'troubles' in the Balkans.

what do people think of the war that went on here? both brittish and american ( although, i know i wont get any answer from the american members because they are mostly teenagers and were babies when it went on )

let me take this oportunity to explain my signiture, carla is Carla del Ponte, chief prosecutor of the Hague tribunal, for years the woman has opstructed us entering the EU because of one man who is acused of war crimes ( nevermind that the indictment is totaly bogus ) and our inability to catch him, in the past few months she has gone so far as to say that the catholic church is hiding him and has went to vatican and asked the pope to stop doing that....which in my opinion only shows that the woman is not all there....so finally, a month ago she said that croatia is cooperating with the Hague tribunal fully....

My memories of the war was that is was a confusing mess with atrocities committed by all sides.

Arkan's tigers spring to mind and the horror that was Srebrenica.

one of the reasons i asked that because i fear that because of all this Gotovina buisness the international comunity is going to start equating the croats and the serbs and make our war for independace ilegitimate.....
