Just wanted to hear your thoughts about the military...NOT GEORGE BUSH.

I recently joined the Navy, and its pretty rad.
Im pretty opened minded, but dont post ignorant comments.

Well, I don't have an opinion on the militery I guess. Its a functional part of a country. I don't really know what your asking for.

Anyway, good luck, I hear you can see the world. Should be enjoyable...to a degree.

i'm not really looking forward to getting up at 5 o'clock in the morning, eating crap food ,being yelled at by some asshole that was abused as a child,or being told what to do so i'm trying to get out of it, i guess it works for some people that need discipline....i don't know, i'll let you know in a year or two if i don't manage to get out of it...( btw, i was asigned to the navy too,haha...not that it's anything like the american navy)
it actually amazes me that people would voluntarily join the army when they don't have to, i just don't understand why....i think it's some sort of defect in their character....the need for discipline and order....

I've got a lot of opinions about the military. From what I've heard of people who've been in the forces, what you can expect to get from it depends entirely on the context of what your military's objective is at that point (a bit obvious sure!).

If you're not on active duty then its just another job, you hang around, train, get paid, pay the bills. If you're actually involved in armed conflict then whether your up for it or not will be affected by what you actually have to do and the reasons why. If you agree with the reasons for fighting then you'll be a lot more motivated and be a lot happier about it if you're successful (the British soldier's who fought in WWII are an example of people who generally are very proud of their roles in the war, as they know they were on the 'good' side).

Sure, the military is one of the more dangerous jobs around but when you sign up you accept that. There's a lot of teamwork and physical projects which look good, running around, shouting, maybe even driving tanks or submarines...

Really, the only two things I would warn about are 1) getting involved in situations where you have follow orders which conflict with your own ethics and mess you up emotionally 2) Working somewhere where there are VERY FEW WOMEN. That would be like hell for me.

At the base where I am currently stationed, the food is excellent, we had lobster tail 2 days ago, and yesterday we had steak and baked potatoes, its alot better than you think, before I joined, I was pretty skeptical about the people, but that was only in boot camp, outside of boot, everyone is really cool. I am also getting all of my school paid for, I am about to receive my BS in Nuclear Technology, for free. I was also given 36k by the montgomery GI Bill for the education of my (future) dependants. But the getting up at 5 sucks. Especially 3 days a week i get up at 430 to run 2 miles, i hate that shiit. Theres alot of things i hate, such as i had to cut my hair that i had grown for so long.

ok, we're obviously talking about two very different things ( the US army or navy, and Croatian army, navy), first of all, army food in croatia is so screwd up that people who i know and can eat just about anything say it's bloody awfull ( and i'm very picky about my food )...lobsters? aaahahaha.....how about fucking roadkill, second, army duty is obligatory here...they force you to do it and they sure as hell aint gonna pay you no money to do it, let alone pay for your education, thirdly, people get raped and heavily abused regularly in the base where i am supposed to be stationed ( it's quite notorius in Croatia )...so yeah, i'm gonna try as hell to do civil duty instead of going in the army.....
that being said, enlisting in america sounds decent, if it weren't for the posibility you might shipped of to a war and killed, i'd give it a go....( if i was american ofcourse....which i'm not...)
i'm actually very surprised you decided to do it, you don't seem like the type...

i dont know how the army could turn someone down(except for oldies, people with heart problems or anyother illness) for a job in which you get yelled at, fed ****ty food, and drilled all day long.

and that's just learning how to shoot a gun at someone else.
