Louis Jordan
Hey guys,
have any of you heard Louis Jordan ('Five Guys Named Moe', 'A Chicken ain't nothin but a bird' etc.) ? |
The King of jump blues. I believe he wrote Caldonia and was a favorite of my favorite, B. B. King(who recently did a cd of Jordan covers). Another great song: Nobody Here But Us Chickens(or sumthin like that).

Louis Jordan is a legend!

Louis Jordan is also known as "The King of the Jukebox." Louis Jordan was also a major influence on early Rock and Roll artist. Chuck Berry always cites Louis Jordan major influence, both with music and lyrics. Bill Haley and the Comets who was one of the early Rock n Roll bands got their sound from blending Jump Blues of Louis Jordan and the Tympany Five, together with the Western Swing of Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. It is a shame that those artists (Jordan and a couple of others I can think of) that came before Rock n Roll are over-looked or forgotten all together by RnR fans because they were not part of it.
My favorite Louis Jordan song is Beans and Cornbread. I heard Alseep at the Wheel do Choo Choo Ch'boogie and I think Louis Jordan is more up beat and "swings" better. YouTube - Louis Jordan & The Tympany Five ~ Beans and Cornbread (1949) YouTube - Louis Jordan - Choo choo ch'boogie |
