I can't say much about Avant Jazz, but Free was a great band.

Do you know that because of WASP or Frank Zappa?

Because I watched a doc about music censorship where Al Gore read those lyrics out loud in a congressional hearing.

RAJADA (PEDRO SOUSA/ MIGUEL MIRA/ AFONSO SIMÕES)
Pedro Sousa is a Portuguese student of Evan Parker and it shows. In keeping with a fantastic tradition of brilliant aggressive jazz. https://multikultiproject.bandcamp.com/album/rajada Recommended

First Offence (Live in London) / Sticks and Stones (Live in Bristol) by Dave Jackson and Wayne Rex
https://muteantsoundsnetlabel.bandca...ive-in-bristol Solid dynamic free jazz. Alto saxophonist, Dave Jackson, and drummer, Wayne Rex communicate and respond to each other with skillful sensitivity. Keeping it a duet allows Jackson plenty of room to express himself and he fills up the space with a powerful voice and Rex is right on cue with explosive and exciting drum work. Recommended

jazz music stops (live at Crystal Palace) by cgi jesus
Instrumental jazz punk probably influenced by bands like Universal Congress Of, Gone, and the Minutemen as well as Zorn and maybe Brötzmann. http://cgijesus.bandcamp.com/album/j...crystal-palace The bassist, Kevin Eichenberger, takes credit for the song writing. He and the alto playing Garen Dorsey provide all the listening credibility this band offers on this recording. The highlights mostly come when Dorsey steers away from the avant garde and experiments with a more modal sound. In order for this to really pull off the jazz punk thing they would need to find a much better drummer than James "Pweedledido" Gibian who fails to hold the band together, form a base, and frankly, to excite the listener. As for the guitar, Brett Jones offers nothing to this performance. At best, I can say he doesn’t completely ruin it. I have my doubts about how deep the talent pool runs in Richmond.
