But I don’t have this new stuff stored away and catagorized in my memory like I pretty much really do with jazz from the 40’s to the 70’s. Like Andrew Cyrille (two up) played on Afternoon of a Georgia Faun and Unit Structures so my listening is already well-informed. Marilyn Crispell may not have all that on her resume but she’s still a powerhouse name. At the end of the year I’ll tuck it all away on a playlist and some of my initial enthusiasm for some records will fade and some will grow. I think the few people who follow my journals know that I tend to present my knowledge as more authoritative than it really is. That said, I haven’t turned my TV on for months and I listen to music A LOT. I divide my time at work between being a prep cook and a line cook. When I do prep I can listen to headphones. That’s more than half my workday. Then when I get home I listen to music pretty much all day. I listen to at least two jazz records everyday and I always make an effort to consider the lineage of the music. Who has played on what records and what style they’re working in (who are their influences). But it’s not like I could just rattle all this **** off the top of my head. I need the reminders that magically appear on my phone. Thank you for being supportive
