Default Howard Riley

British pianist Howard Riley released a great album of solo piano this year.

Stillness by Patrick Booth

https://patrickbooth.bandcamp.com

Smooth jazz by some guy who wants the world to know “The Upper Peninsula of Michigan” is special. This is the last year I’m going to tolerate meaning being assigned to instrumental music.

making bones by Josh Sinton's Predicate Trio

https://ilusorecords.bandcamp.com/album/making-bones

Quote:
Josh Sinton - baritone saxophone and bass clarinet
Christopher Hoffman - cello
Tom Rainey - drums
It seems like I might have reviewed this before but I’m not getting a search hit. I’m going to say even though there’s no pianist on this record that it’s most closely rooted in the Cecil tradition. All three musicians are top shelf. This is a great record.

Search Versus Re-search SM3790 by Stephen Haynes / Damon Smith / Matt Crane / Jeff Plat

https://balancepointacoustics.bandca...-search-sm3790

Very 12 toney slow paced not real aggressive free jazz. Beautifully abstract in a Cecil sense.
Definitely recommended.

The Last Stand of Unsophisticated Display by David "Pudge" Gervais

https://pudgedrums.bandcamp.com/albu...icated-display

This recording from what I’m assuming are the best jazz musicians in Reno combines elements of post-bop, modal, and free. Surprisingly good. These records keep popping up from everywhere. Recommended.

Spirituals by John Dikeman, Ernst Glerum

http://doekraw.bandcamp.com/album/spirituals

Traditional workings of Billy Taylor‘s I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free, Angels Watching Over Me (anonymous) (with an atonal interlude), and George Bennard‘s The Old Rugged Cross.
