Ahmad Jamal
There are a few scattered mentions of this largely unsung genius, but I'm thinking we need a separate thread.
In a genre in which I'm constantly finding delightful records, Ahmad Jamal has consistently been at the top of the list. He plays a very melodic, almost score-like style. Dynamics, flair, technical precision exist in equal measure and few records are as relaxing and yet joyous as Jamal Plays Jamal. As with most Jazz artists, the man is prolific (discography) and I can't speak for every record. But what I know I love, and perhaps you will too! Live set: Personal favorite track:

I recently discovered him too - over the Christmas break I loved listening to both of these albums. One of them is from early in his career, and one very recent. Special bonus, both have impeccable sound quality!
