Beefheart vs. Waits: Join Greg Kot (Chicago Tribune) and Jim DeRogatis in the Debate...

Jim DeRogatis: Tom Waits has progressively become a Captain Beefheart rip-off merchant. If Waits wasn´t making so much money I wouldn´t be so bothered, but all this gravelly, broken, jagged , rough-hewm recording gimmick is a straight rip-off of the good Captain´s glory days in the late 60s and early 70s. And, no I will not accept Waits´ lame excuse that he was influenced by Beefheart. The man has basically stolen Beefheart´s sound and is now coining it from a stupid, ill-informed fanbase. Waits is a fraud. Spread the word.
Shout Amen!

he's a poor man's Beefheart but fraud is a questionable way to put it.
