Old Timey Jazz
Hi, first post and thread.
I'd like to find more music like from this episode of Hey Arnold (Sally's Comet) at 3:38 youtu.be/hNaqgdaKNf0?t=218 and again at 9:27 (I'm not allow to post URLs until I've made 15 posts it seems...otherwise I'd use the proper tags) Also recommendations for the fast stuff at 6:30 would be great too. Thanks! |
When I'm in the mood for that type of jazz, I usually listen to Fats Waller or Jelly Roll Morton.

Here ya go...
The Crave - Jelly Roll Morton (Original Version) https://youtu.be/MkGjDbKauVo And some Fats for the hell of it... Fats Waller - Ain't Misbehavin' - Stormy Weather (1943) https://youtu.be/PSNPpssruFY |
^^okay that's weird I was listening to Aint Misbehavin earlier today; I've been on a fats bender all week.

Django Reinhardt is pretty great, has that 20's dance feel and was most likely an influence on swing as well. Plus, he played his guitar with only three fingers on his left hand, due to the loss of his others. Doesn't get better than that.

This still sounds pretty good; from the band that took Jass from live performances in New Orleans and recorded it for a wider audience:-

It was recorded in 1973, but I hope it still counts. The title track is a wonderfully controlled big-band tour de force. Is it mournful or joyous? No matter how many times I hear it, I still can´t decide. To me, Fahey´s album is far more than some jokey pastiche; it´s an attempt to dust off a little of the up-tempo "novelty" sound of some early jazz and to take dead serious aim at beauty instead. One of my all-time fave albums. |
"Reefer songs from the 30s and 40s"... Nuff said.

Might as well add a bit of sexual innuendo to this thread...
