Just came here to bring up a smart quote by Frank Zappa, that wise man: Jazz is not dead, it just smells funny.

Zappa said a lot of smart things, but I don't think of that particular quote as one of them The Be-Bop tango is great, though.

Well, there's been some deviation from the original idea; I'll get back to it by saying I don't agree at all: jazz loves silence as well. Jazz involves lots of styles, and I do enjoy most of them: it is a balm for the soul, the mind and the body. Jazz music is like a work of art: you really have to listen to it intently to appreciate it; jazz music is not a film: "I've already heard that piece of song... that's it"... you've got to listen to it some good couple of times; lights off; think of nothing else but the music.

They're not lyrics to one of his songs?

One time posters sometimes come up with topics that gone on for a while, compare to some regular member starts a thread that gets ignored, locked, deleted or vanishes to who-knows-where. In a way I find that ironic.

I'm not that familiar with jazz but when it comes on the CBC I don't change stations.

Would like to get into more of it so this sub is a good place to start
