On the Road by Art Farmer

Art Pepper plays on this as well. It’s not flashy but they have good chemistry.

Metheny reached the peak of Jazz Everest a long time ago, but this new record is particularly nice. Lots of great orchestration and intricacy. Plus Lyle Mays is dead so adds an extra layer of melancholy for me.

You should check out We'll Talk About It Later. It's their best album and one of the best fusion albums of the 70s which is a high-ass mark.

^ Thanks for the rec, grindy. I played WTAIL last night and was plenty surprised to hear a Soft Machine song, which (as I then read on allmusic.com) was the original that turned into Hazard Profile. It's a great album and as a supposed enthusiast for Soft Machine, I really should've come across Nucleus already, given that the two bands are so interlinked.

So thanks again - and hope you feel better soon. Coronavirus apart, any 'flu/cold can leave you feeling miserable for days, as I know from experience.

The Elastic Rock - Under the Sun run of albums are all pretty great.

Not really related but you should check out Oregon if you haven't already, Lis. A little more out there and airy than some of the more rough and tough jazz rock bands from the 70's but they're still pretty great and one of my personal faves. Debut in particular.
