Avante-garde/experimental jazz. I'm sure you guys know this guy. I'm just getting into him.

It kind of always was Chick Corea's band.Return to forever just happened to be the name of the project, for a lack of a better way of putting it. The first Return to forever album is actually a Chic Corea album with the title Return to Forever, and all subsequent albums except the last two, Romantic Warrior, and Musicmagic feature a byline that says "...featuring Chic Corea", or "...and Chick corea". It's kind of like how The Jazz Messengers were always Art Blakey's band. In the same manner, Mahavishnu Orchestra was unofficially John McLaughlin's band, although the album titles never referred to it as such.

Haven't seen the dvd documentary yet but the quality of the music is fantastic. Davis is joined by Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea, Dave Holland, and Jack DeJohnette. What an amazing line-up!

Joel Frahm and Brad Mehldau- Don't Explain

A piano and saxophone duet album. Both of these guys are great, and they play together so well.

To answer the question, What are you listening to:- Well, I was listening to Dark Horse´s recommendation from Don´t Explain, three times to be precise because I enjoyed it so much. It manages to be light and mellow at the same time; not too busy, but busy enough. In short, a great track.

To move the thread along, this is a jazz fusion band who are re-working the Grateful Dead catalogue. Can´t believe that I haven´t heard their stuff until today:-

"The New East St. Louis Toodle-o"—Duke Ellington And His Famous Orchestra
It's pretty hard to beat this song in terms of sheer melancholic urban mood. Every time I hear it I picture black and white clock towers, midnight funeral processions and the pitter patter of rain on newsboy caps and fedoras.

Just can't get enough of Dizzy Gillespie. Bird And Diz is always a nice listening experience.

Yeah finally someone who's into that bebop stuff, which is surely not that kind of music you listen to along the way. Had a jam on "a night in tunisia" yesterday - diz' version is good but check out art blakey's fabulous drum intro on his version.

This song is just too good.
