and now Monk's brilliant corners.
great stuff too! i wanted to go buy a record as a gift to a jazz-lover, couldnt find the record i wanted so over the next couple of days i downloaded and began listening some of the available options, and i have heard like 3-4 masterpieces for the first time! |
Harsh, noisy, lofi, nearly-free jazz. It is almost frightening in its intensity. |

^^^^^^ yeah, boy - good era ^^^^^^
Altschul (and Bennink too) kept me occupied in my practice room in those days. Especially Altschul's work with Circle. Wore the following double album out many times back in those days. Loved his (still do) seven and half minute percussion solo that introduces Braxton's 73° Kelvin. Have that Braxton twisted melody memorized to the point where I can whistle it. Another great album. Just swap Corea with Rivers. |

He's got so much stuff. I honestly haven't come across anything by him that I didn't like, but For Alto, Silence, and Eight (+3) Tristano Compositions 1989: For Warne Marsh are all pretty great. I'm sure that rostasi and OH have some good recs too.

I know that most people here don’t agree with me on this point but with some artists you just have to trust them. It’ll take you there but you have to recognize it’s beyond a personal critical assessment. That’s what the “unassailable” thing is about it.
Honestly, I know it doesn’t make sense to people but I stand by this. Occasionally forgo judgement and approach it like you would an experience with nature instead of art. Just let it happen. |
That's how I generally approach artists.
|
How is this album this perfect? I honestly do not understand.

Mingus and Dolphy? What’s your beef?
