Default Gershwin

Anybody else a fan? Every time I hear his music all I can think of is his quote "Life's a whole lot like jazz- it's better when you improvise."

Gershwin is awesome! For a competition, I played his famous "The Man I Love". Gershwin was an awesome impressionist type of guy. He experimented with new ways and defied the laws of the classics.

Gershwin is definitely one of my very favourite composers. Of course there's Porgy and Bess, so innovative at the time, so enchanting to hear and of course very entertaining. When I was thirteen, my school required us to all sing "I Got Rhythm" one by one by oneself, despite the awkwardness of the situation I absolutely adored the tune and have been tinkering with new arrangements ever since (If you're interested, I highly recommend Guy Campion's four handed arrangement).
Next, I was taken by the allures of "It Ain't Necessarily So" which I also find very enjoyable too arrange.

And of course "Rhapsody In Blue" and "American in Paris", it was quite interesting to learn that on the first performance of "Rhapsody In Blue" the final section wasn't written, so he improvised. It must have been an incredible night.
