Yes, he was great at that show. He was really great on Highway 61. Ever heard the alternate take of "It takes a lot to laugh, it takes a train to cry"? It's a lot faster than the albums version, has some really great guitar soloing and some very tasty organ play.

didn't know he was on Highway 61 as well

i thought the backig band there were the Hawks

Ya he was the guitarist on the [I]Highway 61 album. The Hawks didn't back him on that album. The only time he made a studio album with The Band (aka The Hawks) was Planet Waves.

Robbie Robertson, their guitarist was on the album. And bass player Rick danko, but the entire band wasnt on it. Planet waves was the only studio album to feature the full lineup of The Hawks, but they were know as The Band by then

I think Mike Bloomfield was the guitarist/co-writer on Butterfield`s East-West. Do you know that one, blastingas10 ? It`s a real eye-opener about where the Allman Brothers picked up some of their ideas from.

None the less, when it comes to best blues guitarists, I always go for Roy Buchanan, who can break your heart with note after note, as well as playing rough and dirty when he wants to :-
