Default Dr. John, the Night Tripper

Dr. John created for himself one of the more exotic stage personas to come out of the 60`s, which is conveyed pretty well in this bizzare video, which -intentionally or not- seems to parody Christ`s entry into Jerusalem :-

This next clip, though, is from the 80`s and shows how he abandoned the showmanship and let his piano playing speak for itself :-

This is a guy who has spent over forty years exploring the diverse elements that make up his music; New Orleans jazz, R&B,and voodoo chants. That makes for a pretty varied discography, especially as he is not always in touch with his muse, so there are some fairly weak albums in the bunch.

Of his early albums,Gris-Gris and Dr.John`s Gumbo are usually considered the best.
Any comments about these or his later albums ?
