Tab Benoit
Tab Benoit Born November 17, 1967, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Benoit has delveloped a unique and recognizabe sound. From his song writing capabilitys to his impeccable talent for belting out crys's with his Telecaster. Benoit has established himself as a modern day Blues man. In an industry thats definatley not as popular as it once was. He maintains his dedication to the Blues, and keeps putting out music thats inspiring to listen too. His sound is that that ecapsulates a soulfully southern pizazz with a hard luck streets of Chicago twist.
He signed his first record deal in 1992 and released the album called Nice and Warm. It was said it was held in comparison to some of his childhood inspirations such as Albert King and Hendrix. It was 1999 when he released These Blues Are All Mine his second. Later that year he set in on Homesick For The Road, a Telarc label with a couple fellow guitarists. Sparking the idea for the release of my favorite album The Wetlands. Wetlands embarked on a multitude of originally written material by the Cajun Blues man, and entails some classic remakes. Such as These Arms Of Mine by Ottis Redding and other classics.(Ottis Redding) Which might I add was a heavy influence on the critiqing of his vocal raspy vibrance. (Im a big Ottis Redding fan BTW) Speaking of someone im a fan of...in 2002 he recorded and released Whiskey Store. With other fellow guitarist's from the Telarc label along with the infamous Double Trouble. The rhythm section for the late great Stevie Ray Vaughan. Since then he's released several more albums through the years such as Sea Saint Sessions, Whiskey Store Live, Fever For The Bayou, and Brother To The Blues, along with several others. "Brother To The Blues" being nominated for a Grammy for "Best Traditional Blues Album" in 2006. Tab has become someone respectable in the Blues industry, and I felt the need to dedicate a thread to him. I hope other Blues enthuisiasts find his style of play, and lyrics as soulful, and full of that swampy bluesy Louisiana sound as I do.

I first heard of Tab Benoit last year through a friend of mine. I think he is probably one of the finest blues guitarists out there today. As much as I enjoy listening to the more widely recognized classic blues guys like Robert Johnson, John Lee Hooker, B.B. King, etc, I also really enjoy the more modern blues musicians like Benoit. I'm glad that somebody else has an appreciation for his music as well.
This was one of the first songs of his that I heard, and it remains one of my favourites: |

^^Love that song Burning Down..I dont think Tab gets a lot of recognition that he deserves. Theres just not many Blues artists out there today with his dedication, and capability. I doubt very seriously he's living the good life and raking in millions of dollars. He gets by on just mainly passion alone, and a love for the music. Obviously using his own personal experiences for his writing creativity. Which is what the Blues is all about. The harder the life the sweeter the song imo. I first heard him several years ago but am growing progressivley more fond of him.
As far as my favorite Tab song theres not a youtube vid of it, but its called If I Could Quit You off his "Standing On The Bank" album. You can google the song and find a link that has it listed to play. I think maybe myspace music has it. Let me know what ya think btw. What I like most about Tab Benoit is the work that he does for the social and ecological causes. There is something from Jacksonville, where I live. Interesting read.
