Noisy Jazz Hybrid Recommendations?
I can decide if this belongs in the jazz forum or experimental or just general music but I guess for right now I'll leave it in jazz, since that element is kind of the common thread between the bands I'm talking about.
Anyway, I've been on a huge kick of listening to a few noisy jazzy hybrid bands lately and would love to hear more bands that fit this general description. Any one have any good recommendations? Here are some examples of the kind of stuff I'm talking about: |
I don't know if this counts as a Noisy Jazz hybrid or just a noisy piece created by a Jazz musician. Still, an incredible work, nonetheless:
Sun Ra did this in 1978. If that's not ahead of it's time, I don't know what is |
That's almost the opposite of what I was looking for to be honest, being kind of ambient and soundscape-ish as opposed to spastic and aggressive like the examples I posted. That said, I do like Sun Ra and had never heard this before, so it's certainly a pleasant discovery for me. Thanks!

Since you posted Painkiller there is no point in recommending Naked City?

Last Exit - utterly amazing album. High recommendation. Pure chaos from start to end. Then there was another one I forgot the name of, and don't even know if it was a real album, or audio ripped from an old VHS. It was ok, but it had these really lengthy interview sections between songs which were entirely in French. Probably though the heaviest, hardest, least teenie bopper friendly jazz I've ever heard. Pure free jazz improv. Interestingly enough, unlike Naked City, it derives it's heaviness from just plain being heavier rather than fusing with metal/grindcore styles. |

I would like to note though that by Last Exit I mean the one with Bill Laswell, Brontzman, and Sonny Sharrock not the one with Sting. Apparently they're both Jazz fusion bands but I'm pretty sure that the one with Sting is not really worth mention.
