Some help needed

Hi folks!

I've benn recently getting into jazz which is more concentrated on electric bass guitar virtuosity. Maybe with some experimental/avant-garde things thrown in. Jaco Pastorus, Nathan Hughes, Jeff Schmidt, things like this.

But it seems hard to find the right things. Maybe someone more experiences could help me out with some recommendations?

Thanks in advance, A.

Maybe not so jazz, but still awesome.

Oh yeah, and the more slap/pop the bassist does, the better it is.

if you want slap and pop you definitely want some Victor Wooten in that case, and while not a proper 'jazz' guy Les Claypool also fits the bill. same with Squarepusher (Tom Jenkinson).

Wow, thanks, Dave. Just checked them out and they are purely awesome. Les Claypool is just outstanding.

Stanley Clarke ?

Here playing upright bass, but well known for his electric bass guitar playing.

Oh my, he is great. Just sick. Thanks for this, Eugene.

I'd second Victor Wooten, he has absolutely phenomenal technique and stylistic ability. You might like Bela Fleck and the Fleckstones (a band which Victor plays in). I personally find it a bit over-the-top, though.

Yes, I've already checked out Wooten. "Palmystery" and "Soul Circus" are oustanding.

glad you're liking it :thumb:

did you give squarepusher a listen yet? some of his tracks might be misleading, i'd recommend starting with his more recent releases.

here's a personal favourite from his last disc
