Erik Truffaz
this wicked french trumpeter really needs his own thread.
i've managed to track down all his music over the past year - it was not an easy task. i really like it all except for his first two, which to me just sound like plain old boring jazz. the rest - well, it's phenomenal. i'll admit being partial to any tracks that feature Nya, he really adds a great lyrical touch to what is already outstanding music. favorite album is Arkhangelsk by a wide margin, followed by either Revisité or Walk of the Giant Turtle. anybody else dig his tunes? |
i've only heard a collaboration he did with amon tobin but it was ultra badass. never really checked out his solo stuff before.

what?? he worked with amon tobin? badass indeed!
don't know how i missed that, but i'm off hunting :D EDIT: http://www.pe7er.com/content/view/222/71/ :( |
yeah i knew the start was tobin's stuff. even as a split ep it's hardly a bad collection of music though hehe.

The only album of his I have is 'Mexico' a collaboration with Murcof. Not too bad, didn't seem like anything special but a very nice listen none-the-less.

Nya (who does vocals for Truffaz) headed a group in the mid 90s called Silent Majority. Truffaz did his trumpet magic for them now and agian.
Their albums lean a bit more towards hip-hop than jazz, but they're definitely a bit of both. Anyway, I just discovered that Nya has uploaded both Silent Majority albums for the sake of sharing. They're long out of print, so it's a pretty awesome gesture. If you need some phenomenal new ear candy, definitely check them out. nya - spaces |

Nya - Rootz Teknowledgy just got this off of bandcamp. outstanding! anyone familiar with Erik Truffaz will recognize Nya as the vocalist who does occasional vocals over Truffaz's amazing trumpet. this is Nya's first solo, and it's got a similar style. ultra smooth jazzy sounds with electronic injections, and Nya doing vocals on some tracks. very good stuff. |
this is genius, really genius - musical poetry at its best - funnily enough I first came across this track on the Almyra Hotel website while on vacation in Cyprus, I loved it so much we had to email them to ask them what the track was - good taste ;)

Never heard of this guy, but I'll certainly be giving him a listen on the basis of some high praise from noise, mr dave, etc. |
Man, this makes me miss noise, mr dave, and Zarko. We've really had some pretty awesome members over the years.
