First listen to Bud Powell today and The Scene Changes. Looking forward to many more hours with Bud.

What an absolute BEHEMOTH. OH, if you haven't heard this, do it now. It's unassailable. It's an avant-garde fusion juggernaut. Beautiful rhythms and the perfect moments of unleashed out there chaos. One of the tightest quintets I've ever heard. Oh, man. Wow.

Awesome. You're on fire Exo, listening to some of these records is really expanding my horizon. The Milford Graves album was a exhilarating trip too.

I think these are stemming from a RYM list I dove into and couldn't find much on Spotify but found full albums on YT. One of my friends also owns one of the better jazz record shops on the east coast and is publishing a book on Sun Ra so I get good recs.

I’m gonna go through all these I haven’t heard.

Today I’ve been in the mood for older stuff

Dimension
2nd Dimension

Funky mid 90's J-Fusion with a touch of free jazz raucousness pervading. 'Early Morning' in particular is a ridiculously complex piece but that central melody slays.

Just listened. Positively thrilling unassailable fusion. First 80% or so heavily Miles. Then it breaks more like Herbie Hancock and Jean Luc Ponty and Weather Report.

I love the way these Eastern European guys were so capable and willing to go off but they also are unabashed about the melodic hooks you can sink your tooths into.

What a beautiful lost gem.

Btw, if you haven’t already i recommend checking out Wadada Leo Smith’s Spiritual Dimensions.

This is a f*cking masterpiece. The track "In a Breeze" is one of the more melodic and beautiful solo cello pieces I've ever heard. It's a perfect display of what a cello can do. Excellent record and one day it will be a very expensive addition to my collection.
That really was good.

This is bass not cello and repped it here before but have you heard emerald tears by dave holland? I really love that one.

Sun Ra Arkestra - Swirling (2020)

Quote:
The planets align as the mighty Sun Ra Arkestra, under the direction of the maestro Marshall Allen, are releasing their first studio album in over twenty years, ‘Swirling’.

“We truly hope that this recording brings much joy to a planet which is so deeply in need of a spirit sound and vibration,” states saxophonist Knoel Scott. “We hope it contributes to a change in the ominous direction of man’s journey through the cosmos.”

“This new release is the Arkestra’s love offering to the world,” concludes Marshall Allen. “Beta music for a better world.”

Recorded at Rittenhouse Soundworks in Philadelphia, the new recording represents the continuation of a heartfelt rebirth of the Arkestra under Allen’s guidance since Sun Ra left the planet in 1993, gaining new generations of followers from their regular touring across the globe. With a big band line-up featuring long-standing Arkestra members including Danny Ray Thompson (RIP), Michael Ray, Vincent Chancey, Knoel Scott, Cecil Brooks, Atakatune (RIP), Elson Nascimento and Tyler Mitchell, the album is a full-blooded celebration of Sun Ra’s legacy.

Bill Evans Trio and Sunday at the Village Vanguard for some brilliant interplay between piano and bass.
