Count Basie Swings, Joe Williams Sings. Absolutely fantastic album, though it's really really grainy, which is something I'm really sad about, since the exact sound of Joe's voice can't be experienced, and damn he has a voice.

Hit up my local record shop this week for his new stock of Blue Note 75th Anniversary LPs.
Started off with Herbie Hancock's Empyrean Isles. Going back for Sun Ra - Heliocentric Worlds Vol 1, Blue Trane, Out to Lunch, and a list of other essentials. |

I liked it, although it will take some more listens before I'll really "get" it. Great vocals and percussion, especially the B side.

David Murray Octet - Dark Star (The Music Of The Grateful Dead)
Really well done reinterpretation of Grateful Dead music (assuming one likes David Murray's style). The real standout tune (for me, anyway) is "Dark Star". "Dark Star, being largely improvisational as played by the Grateful Dead, lends itself nicely to jazz performance. rooster
