Steve Oliver
Stever Oliver plays Spanish guitar with an Eastern flavor, I think mostly Indian. Try the song Global Kiss. I like it very much. A lot depends on what types of lead instruments you like. (So far I haven't liked many songs with a lead electric bass.) What fusion styles you like with the smooth jazz. Fast or slow? Odd or generic?

At this moment, Charles Mingus - Mingus Ah Um.
Otherwise I've listened to a lot of Coltrane and Billie Holiday lately. "Blue Train", "A Love Supreme" and "Africa/Brass" by Coltrane, and "Solitude", "Songs For Distingué Lovers" and "Velvet Mood" by Billie Holiday. "The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady" is another Mingus album I've been enjoying lately. |

The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady is my favorite jazz rekkid of all time. What an album!
Recently Don Cherry's Eternal Rhythm (free jazz) and A Love Supreme. Actually, some Out to Lunch (Eric Dolphy) as well, which is fantastic.
