Yesterday I listened to "Fathers and Sons" by Muddy Waters. Enjoyed it quite a bit.

He was simply the best hard-bop trumpeter in my eyes. Such a satisfying listen from start to finish this.

Oscar Peterson's album The Complete Cole Porter Songbooks where he plays songs by Cole Porter is a delicious listen. As a "cover/tribute album", I didn't expect it to e as good as it turned out!

Great piano player

Been checking out one of John Zorn's 2011 releases, At the Gates of Paradise

Really nice and mellow for a Zorn work.

Also digging into the 2 hour 10 minute (2 disc) Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, and Lenny White: Forever

Good bunch of Return to Forever live stuff...

Quote:
The double-disc Forever brings together one CD of material from dates in the US and Japan, and a bonus disc of rehearsals for the trio's 2009 Hollywood Bowl date, joined by original RTF guitarist Bill Connors, violinist Jean-Luc Ponty and vocalist Chaka Khan. At the core of both discs is the vibrant simpatico shared by Corea, Clarke and White, their acoustic set combining well-known standards and some equally iconic Corea material, from his early entry into The Real Book, the swinging "Windows," to the title track to RTF's No Mystery (Polydor, 1975), expanded to nearly a quarter-hour in length. Approaching his 70th birthday later this year, Corea has simply never played better; bolstered by the equally unfettered and exploratory Clarke and White, his staggering solo demonstrates this trio's unfailing empathy in an album highlight of improvisational construction.
Corea, Clarke & White | Forever

Space Circus and After the Cosmic Rain are my favorites but there are plenty of good'uns.

I miss Al di Meola, what HAPPENED? He's obviously still alive and kicking, he's apparently got an album out this year. And worked with these fellas in '09. Where's Al?

Edit: Found my answer on the above article's comments:

Quote:
Di Meola expressed his, well, displeasure with the way the tour went, from choice of material to the extended solo sections. The others were having a blast; him, no so much. So it was no surprise that they decided to move on without him. If you're going to hit the road for months and be living in each others' pockets, you'd better want to all be on the same page./

Di Meola has a new World Sinfonia style record coming soon, and it's great
Quote:
No slight on Di Meola intended, just to be clear; he simply wasn't in synch with the rest of them, though you'd not necessarily know from the shows, where I think he was playing very well.
