The Jazz & Blues Recommendation Thread (funk, punk)

Some underground and less famous jazz/blues artists are:

-Bill Cantos: piano and vocals..he does a lot of trio stuff. His music is pretty fresh and writes many original.
-Kristin Korb: bassist and vocalist, she used to be in L.A. but moved to Denmark about a year ago. She's influenced by Brazilian/Portuguese style and does a workshop there about once a year.
-Sheila Jordan is well known in the jazz world but is not as infamouse as Ella or Billie. She has a very unique/corky style. She has excellent nuances and expression in her sound.
-Blossom Deary. Classic jazz piano/vocalist. If you haven't heard her stuff before you might begin to listen and recognize it. A lot of places play her music because it's akin to Frank Sinatra feel. Fairly mellow.
-Gerald Clayton looks pretty young, but don't let that fool you. He has been nominated for many Grammys. Most of his stuff is trio. He plays the upright bass.
-Esperanza Spalding: another bass and vocalist. Very ecclectic, Latin/jazz infussion. Great music to listen to- very upbeat and expressive.

These are just a few suggestions. There are so many underground type artists in jazz. It's so fun to go hear some of the greats online or others in concert and be able to hear how they are influenced by different artsist in their style and interpretation.
