Acid Jazz?

Thanks for the thread on acid jazz and Acid Jazz label. I have often been intrigued by this. I was a child of the 90s Acid Jazz label, and always believed that Gilles Peterson/Eddie Piller created Acid Jazz label as a new genre. But was it in fact replicating and building on the original acid jazz movement of the 60s and 70s, but with a more electronica sound?

The legendary jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery is almost always associated with this style of music as he undoubtedly pioneered the genre. Here's a band I listened to a lot over the last few years. Vels Trio. Big in the London scene. Are they jazz? Electronica? They only released two albums, before splitting up recently for pastures new. Pity.
