Bowed bass solo from Jimmy Garrison "Untitled Original 11383" (Take 1)
Nature Boy is a standard https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nature_Boy "Untitled Original 11386" (Take 1) - sound very much Africa Brass McCoy Tyner’s solo is especially “swingy” not sure if Coltrane would have released it at the time - when Coltrane comes out of it - it’s a lot like when he breaks from solos My Favorite Things - Elvin Jones drum solo - very reserved - almost less showy than what he plays to keep the time - incredibly modest and tasteful "Vilia" (Take 3) yeah different direction- it’s a standard I guess sounds like they just put the music in front them and blasted it out / there’s absolutely no way Coltrane would have released this at 63 - he was on a totally different trajectory by then 4 takes of impressions - no comment Slow Blues - oh it’s so gorgeous my head is going to sink - his scale patterns slowed down - Elvin Jones keeping pace almost like he’s ignoring Coltrane - like he’s insisting on keeping it grounded McCoy Tyner like obviously blues - almost rock’n’roll Jones slips into double time for Tyner - ****ing good lord - I need to listen to the Lush Life version and this again and think about it (These stupid graphics on Spotify blah) One Up, One Down - I honestly don’t know what this offers compared to previously released versions. I mean literally- I need time to play them back to back So basically it’s two obviously significant unheard tracks and a to me startling and beautiful “Slow Blues” Straight off I’m going to say that this isn’t like a lost Classic Quartet album like they just found a copy of Crescent that nobody has ever heard - honestly I’m glad Two important new tracks is a lot I think they want to try to recreate the mystique of Thelonious Monk Quartet with John Coltrane at Carnegie Hall The Live at Temple release 4 years ago raged into my heart as an official member of the Coltranes. It’s late - I took an ambien before even putting it on This isn’t my official final say

I'm finally taking the A Love Supreme plunge. I'm new to jazz, if anyone has thoughts or favourite things to share about the album to accompany the listening that would be cool

This has some good historical and music theoretical background in layman's terms. https://www.npr.org/2000/10/23/148148986/a-love-supreme
It might be too intense for someone not too deep into jazz, but I'd recommend checking out Sun Ship next. Banworthy tbf

^thanks, that's very interesting.
I think it's very beautiful so far. A lot of new things to process, but that's exiting.
