I'm not sure if I said this before, but I'd recommend that everyone here purchases as least one disc from all of these artists!!!I'm glad to see/talk to some people that are also fans of these great musicians, later!!!:drummer: :)

I wouldn't consider that a problem at all. It'd be the same if you were to pick Albert King or B.B. King, no artist is a void. All of them have influences. Also, the way I hear it, B.B. King and Jimi Hendrix have drastically different styles of playing.

My personal favorite is SRV - that is, I probably listen to him more than any of the others. I have CDs by all of these guys and they each have their strong and weak points. Not many weak points I guess, but each has something that the others don't.
The most obscure name on this list is Taj Mahal. Sad but true. He is also (oddly enough) by far the most diverse as far as styles and output.
Clapton is not GOD as some stated in the 60's but he is by far the most popular name on the list. He is truely a master on the guitar.
The Kings - Albert had more influence on Hendrix/EC/SRV than B.B. did because his style is closer to R&R than B.B., and risking blasphemy, Albert was a much better technical guitarist than B.B. B.B.'s one note leads were never groundbreaking or innovative, but highly entertaining none the less.
Hendrix was an innovator. He did things to and with a guitar that nobody did before or since. Had he not died there is no telling what else he could've accomplished.
SRV - I think he took the best of all these guys and mixed it up with some of his own ideas and came up with some of the most badass music made to this point.

he has a real earthiness about his music - and his music covers the widest range of genres than anyone else on that list.

hes done of course, the blues, as well as motownesque soul, jazz (check out his collaboration with bob stewart on "then and now") hard rock and hendrixesque rock (the car of your dreams) and these days hes getting into world music a lot too.

he is a huge inspiration to many players including eric bibb

I'm going with Jimi on this one.

Not to take anything away from SRV or Clapton, but Hendrix does things others just cannot duplicate. I mean, I learned how to shred some scales like SRV, and I can whip through the licks in Layla, but never will I ever get my Wah pedal to scream Voodoo Chile.

Hendrix is the best ROCK guitarist in history.

But there are a number of guitarists in other genres of music, who are better.

I'm glad to hear that some of you other guys are also into/know about Taj Mahal!!!Not many people "know" him as far as popularity is concerned, but for those of us that do, he's proved to be another great musician in a unique style focused on the blues!!!

I know he has a uniquely different style of the blues compared to the other "more popular" artists, but I think that that's one of the things that makes him so great!!!

I know I had to put the other musicians-especially B.B. King, hendrix, clapton, vaughan-on this list, but I couldn't help but put Taj Mahal here!!!I'm pretty happy seeing that Taj Mahal is getting some good comments on this poll/thread...

Good point, man!!!You know they could also judge the best guitarist on levels such as:Best "Classical", Best "Acoustic" and Best "Electric"...
