All great drummers, Papa Jo is one of the most influential drummers in jazz, as Soundgardener said. Technically, Buddy Rich is the best of the three, in my opinion. However, my favorite jazz drummer is Elvin Jones.

Rich is an obvious choice for many. He had an amazing style, interesting personality, and the ability to improvise. The guy could keep a steady beat at age TWO for christ's sake! Then again, there are so many amazing jazz drummers from that 30s era, Krupa, Webb, Jones, not to mention early pioneers like Baby Dodds.
