Finally saying hello
 

Hello! I'm Alexandria, and I've been reading this forum fairly regularly for over 15 years, if you can believe it. Back in 2007-2010 I used to browse the journals and list threads for albums to listen to. I never really had the guts to take the plunge and start posting, but I think forums are generally kinder and chiller places now than they were in the 2000s and I want to talk music with some of the cool folks here.

I like a pretty wide breadth of music styles, though I mostly gravitate toward various forms of rock and electronic music. I love prog rock, ambient, glam rock, synthpop, 70s proto-metal, slam death metal, italo disco, and crunk, just to name a few genres that sound hilarious when you juxtapose them together like that.

I also love synthesizers. I used to play keyboards in bands and I have a passion for electronic sound design.

I do hope to make some forum friends on here, I look forward to meeting all of you. Here's to a great 2023!

You've been here silently for 15 years? That's amazing! I'm glad you're mingling, I like ambient myself and am always eager to learn about new genres (I'd never heard of crunk but any genre with a name like that must be worth checking.out)

Thank you for the warm welcome! And yep, I first found this place around the end of 2007 just after graduating high school. Discussions on here were intimidating to me back then, haha. It's probably for the best in hindsight, my taste circa 2007 would have gotten me eaten alive by the regulars back then.

And crunk is basically simplistic electronic style hip hop with a lot of shouting and chanting. If you know Lil Jon, you know what it sounds like, haha.

I'm aware! That's actually the precise reason I'm joining now. All the more "normal" people moved on to social media, so all that's left is the interesting people.

That is incredible. You have been here longer than I have - one/four years (since I joined in 2008 but then left in a huff and didn't come back till 2011, so really I only count my time here from 2011 on) - and yet haven't posted. Are you chronically shy, or just afraid we'd eat you? Don't worry; we're all relatively well fed here. Watch out for Batty though.

Anyway, welcome. In general, you will/should find we're friendly and welcoming (we like to put new (!) people at their ease before we wheel out the pot) and ready to talk. There is a lot of trash talking that goes on, but usually no malice intended, so as long as you don't have a thin skin like I did in 2008 you'll be cool.

Thanks! I never posted until now for a few reasons; one was shyness for sure. I have always been one to avoid confrontation, and I always was a bit afraid of incurring someone's wrath when I said that I don't really care for Radiohead. I'm more mature now, and way less self-conscious about musical taste and opinions. And I'll absolutely check it out! I've been on a major prog kick lately.
