I honestly find Steve Earle's voice hard to listen to but I do love me some country. Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Townes Van Zandt (suck it, OH), The Louvin Brothers, Dolly Parton. I'm not deep into the genre at all but what I've been getting into over the last few years is some of the best stuff I've discovered in that time.

well he should be mad but mostly at himself i think.
the way i see it the pumpkins had a great path in fron of them after adore, to follow it up further exploring a new (at least for them) sound. there was another path they could take if they wanted to be heavier, realized a year before with the end is the beginning is the end track (and also the first single from adore which was kinda diferrent than anything else in there)

instead BC panicked because the sales were low and/or because many fans didnt want the smasing pumpkins to do anything diferrent, and tried to follow it up with 2 "rock" records, the machinas.
1.he should stay true to the course he already taken and 2.those records were full of songs inferior to mellon collie's b-sides. after that....well there's no after that actually, just him and his vanity and no music worth listening or talkin about.

@GeechyDarko
sorry to fill your welcome page with pumpkins chatter! promise i lll stop it here :)

when in reality it was a fluke that The Pumpkins were ever popular and they had about 2 albums worth of huge success no matter what

imo the best of Machina 1+2 would make for a pretty badass album but it's of endless contention between fans as to which tracks would make the cut on such an album

in my opinion they didnt even have the songs at the time..
if you do records like siamese dream and then mellon collie, a bunch of ok or even good songs, in the same direction, isnt enough.especially when in between you did a completely diferrent sounding record like adore.

after something like that , you dont look back. billy corgan blamed the fans and then tried to do what he thaught the fans anticipated...

i am very happy i got to see them live at the adore tour, because i would never have any interest to see them after that. it was great. but i rememeber listening to the radio a press conferance with bc and he just bloody moaned and was half-apologizing, and at the same time having a "you dont understand " attitude, and was using the word "rock" way too much. he also told us a stupid story, which i cant exactly remember, but kinda expressed the same feelings, before/while they played the last track of the concert ..

between that and the archived demos from that era, there was at least another album worth of A+ material

like if you aren't aware of this material and you're a fan, oh boy

yeah i m familiar with all that material. i was a huge pumpkins fan when i was in school and that was a cd and tape era so the stuff you would have you listened to them many many times :)

1/3 first cds i bought was mellon collie, i would save money to buy the aeroplane flies high in cd box set, i have the "ransom" soundtrack (for god's sake) which i had to buy to listen to the tracks BC wrote , pisces iscariot etc etc.

thats why i told you earlier that the mellon collie b-sides were better than the machinas.

but i ll also insist that when you release a box of cds with the songs that didnt make it to mellon collie, to have a bunch of good songs or good ideas for songs is more than enough (and there were plenty of good stuff in there)

when you release the follow-up to adore, a bunch of good alt rock songs wasnt enough. i also believe that the pumpkins didnt even have that minimum at the time.

it was a 100% false move without even some good songs to back it up.
