Hi my name is James

Hey everyone!

I just joined up here and saw that this is one of the recommended first steps to being a part of this community. I'm down with that.

A little of my background
I was much bigger into music in general when I was younger. These days I've kind of lost touch with whats what. In my younger years the following were pretty much all of the albums I ever bought.

Random Likes
No Doubt - Rock Steady
Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory
Jay-Z - The Blueprint
P.O.D. - Satellite
The Offspring - Conspiracy of One
Sum41 - All Killer No Filler

Emo high school period
Panic! At The Disco - A Fever You Can't Sweat Out
Fall Out Boy - Take This To Your Grave, From Under The Cork Tree
The Academy Is... - Almost Here
Paramore - Riot
Yellowcard - Ocean Avenue, Lights and Sounds, Paper Walls
Blink-182 - Enema Of The State, Take Off Your Pants And Jacket, Blink-182
Angels & Airwaves - We Don't Need To Whisper
Matchbook Romance - Stories and Alibis
My Chemical Romance - Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge
The Used - In Love and Death
Say Anything... - In Defense of the Genre
Acceptance - Phantoms
Relient K - Mmhmm
Mayday Parade - A Lesson In Romantics, Anywhere But Here

Harder stuff post high school
Atreyu - Lead Sails Paper Anchor
Escape The Fate - This War Is Ours, Escape The Fate
Three Days Grace - Three Days Grace, One-X
Five Finger Death Punch - The Way of the Fist, War is the Answer, The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell
Saosin - Saosin, In Search of Solid Ground
A Day To Remember - Homesick, What Separates Me From You
Hawk Nelson - Smile, It's the End of the World
Anberlin - Blueprints for the Black Market, Never Take Friendship Personal, Cities

A lot of the bands I liked are disbanded or have shifted their sound so much I don't care for it anymore. I sometimes feel like I would be better off stuck in an alternative universe where pop-punk and A Day to Remember still played on the radio. Hopefully I can expand my horizons and find some newer stuff to follow after getting involved here.

Looking forward to getting to know you guys/gals!

I can definitely agree that lead sails paper anchor was a monster from start to finish. I'm not even all that crazy about a majority of this list anymore. I might wax nostalgic about them but you likely won't find me listening to any of them very often. Case and point: my most listened to tracks on Google play music lately are 4 bands I didn't list here. Crazy how my tastes have evolved. :)

Welcome to MB, Poppapunk :wavey:

One of us is certainly in an alternative universe: I haven't heard of - let alone heard - any of those albums you listed :(

Like one of the ultimate pop metal songs ever made.

LINKIN PARK'S HYBRID THEORY is a must listen. I can't recall any other bands that had a similar formula. I guess Hollywood Undead kind of replicated their original sound fairly well. No one will ever replace Chester though. :( RIP

Musical disdain or suicide related?

The Batlord 04-01-2019 06:58 PM

Totes both.

There are certainly some songs I'll agree he's not as impressive. Like "shadow of the day". He sounds like he's trying to be someone he's not. Feels forced.

And suicide, yeah totally not cool.

The Batlord 04-01-2019 07:29 PM

Yeah no Chester is garbage and Linkin Park are worthless.

PoppaPunk 04-01-2019 08:32 PM

Lol what makes you despise them so much? I really enjoy a decent amount of their stuff. Minutes to midnight was meh. The Jay-Z collaboration was cool.

The Batlord 04-01-2019 08:50 PM

They're just super bad and lame.

PoppaPunk 04-02-2019 05:04 AM

I can't attempt to change your tastes but I will leave this quote here. "Hybrid Theory by the group is listed in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, It was also ranked at #11 on Billboard's Hot 200 Albums of the Decade." - Billboard

The Batlord 04-02-2019 08:28 AM

Billboard is to my ass what trains are to my dick.

PoppaPunk 04-02-2019 08:39 AM

In the realm of overwhelming popular opinion, Billboard is definitely someone I trust. :) I love your analogy tho!

PoppaPunk 04-04-2019 04:27 PM

Care to educate me on what good tastes would entail? I'm open to being influenced!

Most of this I either know little of and/or am not really into. Nonetheless, I admire a person who puts in some effort into an OP, and lays his/her cards on the table.

As one YTer on another page put it, what the Ramones would have sounded like if they were Japanese girls. :D

I admire your contempt, but I didn't understand the metaphor.
