The ratio of introduction threads to actual members
 

I know it's what you're supposed to do, but it seems to me that most (not all, of course, but most) of those who go to the trouble of making an intro thread tend not to end up becoming regular members. I wonder why this is? Hey! Put that black kitten down Batty! I said the Black Mass begins at midnight, and not before! No, you can't use the maggot-riddled corpse in a shock grindcore video! It's getting harder to get them: that gravedigger is getting suspicious.

Now, where was I? Oh yeah: weird, huh? We're normal enough people, doing the same sort of - can someone please tell the lesbian conjoined triplets that the floor is not the place to leave their pet dead crows? Thanks.

Just ordinary people, doing what we do. Why don't people stay?

Someone should do research into this most puzzling phenomenon...

We've talked about this before. 1 out of maybe...50 new members understand that it's better to just jump right into the threads already taking place and not trying to single themselves out. I have more fun with new members when they join the discussion right away and bring something to the table. The ones that try to pin point that they're new seem to not do as well for whatever reason. Idk, just an observation.

I'm also including the members that go in and create a pretty cool and fun journal right away.

I know, I know. And do you notice how few people bring their own maggot-riddled corpse to the party these days? What's happening to people? This place used to have class.

Internet forums as a whole are really becoming a thing of the past. Musicbanter is perhaps one of the very few exceptions of a forum continuing to thrive. It's pretty amazing when you think about it. It's easily one of the very few forums that has an atmosphere like this one has. But again, the longer you're here, the more it feels like family. That's kind of the way it goes. You just have to stick through the tough **** to get to the good stuff.

Yeah, never understood this phenomenon. I'm not sure if I ever made my intro. I went through a phase where I tried my best to great people and make them feel welcome and engaged but it really makes no difference. People who want to stay and discuss about music will do that regardless whether they immediately feel like a part of the community or not.

The people who want to stay will just jump right in and stay even if they get some weird responses. The people who need to be greeted and feel welcome are generally not gonna stay no matter what you say and even if they do it'll be for a month or so. The people who stay at internet forums are weird, maladjusted mother****ers who want community and only care about the topic as a point of entry.

I'm pretty sure I've been called a normie a few times here on MB. I've got over 5000 posts on an internet forum. That makes me 5000 posts weirder than most people.

So true. This place has a 'vibe' that I really can't put into words. But it's cool.

Again, so true. Every full-time poster is ****ed up in one way or another.

Except PLANK. Still haven't figured him out. Fortunately, I've got some cash and have people working on it.
